Hi guys,

I just found a listing of the upcoming Xeon D and Pentium D lineup (beyond the 1520&1540) over at CPU-World. Hopefully those additional, cheaper CPUs will also end up in proper server mainboards from SM etc. The Pentium D 1517 looks quite interesting for a homeserver / NAS setup given that it should have a low power footprint and should be significantly cheaper than the XEON Ds...

Cheers
Alex

There are also storage specific SKUs coming. The Xeon D was 2 processors at launch but expect it to be a family much like the C2000, E3 and E5

Sounds promising - at the moment I have a hard time justifying the xeon D 1540 mainboard prices for "home only" use ;-)

Any specifics you can share? Similar to 2011-3 with 10 SATA3/SAS3 or built in controllers or ?

Anyone any idea when they come avaible ? And is it only embedded ?
These are only embedded. I'm not anticipating before late Q1 seeing any of the new skus but I might well be wrong. Remember how long it took to actually get a Xeon D?

Yeah, and i am waiting for it allready way to long. Exactly what we need, but still no mainstream. SM seems quiet difficult to get them, asrock is still not mainstream selling them.... We are all now talking about them for more than 6 months....

I don't mind the current Xeon-D prices (at least the 4 core variant is acceptable) but the current crop of motherboards makes it a non-starter for me. I was eyeing the popular X10SL7-F but now consider X11SSH-F as the new C236 chipset supports 8 SATA ports and I save on the LSI tax. There is also the M.2 slot for boot drive.
Give me a mATX Xeon-D board with at least 8 on board SATA ports, 2x 1GbE LAN (no 10GbE, are you crazy?) everything that could be is vaporware at the moment.

Anyways Norwegian krone is pretty low compared to USD/EUR atm so everything is expensive.

Does anyone know when Supermicro will release new mATX Xeon-D motherboards with multiple PCIe slots?

No products announced yet.
And, when I asked (mail) SM, last month, for the availability of new 1518/1528 products listed on the web site : they say: "maybe, end of january"...
