I am grabbing a SC846 soon. I wanted to make sure I have everything first though before I make a big purchase.

I am going to be using a ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 motherboard with a 9900K. The SC846 chassis will have 2x 1280w SQ PSUs.
I know I will need the (CBL-0068L) fan header breakout cable to connect to my Mobo. I was thinking I would need some fan, and power cable extension cables.

My questions are:
-What else am I missing? adapter or cable wise? I know I need the SAS cables too.
-Does the SC846 have a 24 & 8+4 Pin output? I only see 8 pin CPU outputs on SM motherboards so Im worried the SC846 wont have 8+4 pins needed for the CPU. This is my biggest concern.
-I am hoping the vender for the case has newer SM fans with 4 pin and PWM. I asked them and am awaiting response.

Your board doesn't have 12 pin connectors. 12V inputs are either 4 pins or 8 and you can buy an inexpensive adapter to go from 8 to 4 pins. Often the 8 pin connectors split so that won't be needed either.

Im sorry I should have been more specific. It has a 8+4 pin for the CPU. Then a 24 pin for the motherboard. I updated my post.

I don't recall off the top of my head if the second 8 pin connector splits, but you can just get an adapter for a couple dollars.

I know RTFM is the last thing we techies do but you can check on the SM documentation and be different

Not sure on the 846 PDBs but the PDBs for 216/825/826 have one EPS 8 pin and another 4+4. should not be that much different even if they have multiple revisions of the PDB.

According to SM, The Supermicro power distributor PDB-PT815-8824 connects 19-pairs input to (1) power 24-pin ATX, (2) power 8-pin +12v, (2) legacy 4-pin and (1) l2C

Which of those are needed by the backplane?

That is not the PDB that the 846 chassis uses. The 846 chassis uses either the PDB-846-8824 or the PDB-846-N24 distribution boards.

- The 8824 PDB has two EPS 8 pin connectors, the N24 has only one.
- An 8 pin EPS connector does not necessarily have to be a split one to fit a 4 pin 12v ate connector. Even if it is not split, one "half" of the 8 pin connector is keyed correctly and will fit a 4 pin connector, with a caveat. There has to be enough space around the 4 pin connector for the overhanging 4 pins.
- Both of those PDBs have SIX HDD style 4 pin power connectors for the backplane.

Awesome thank you!

Does the PDB-846-8824 have any extra molex connectors? I need to power 2x ssds and was hoping for a molex to plug into my P2000(it draws very little over 75w)(my pcie slot provides 75w just want to plug in the extra connector for insurance)
It looks like the PDB-846-8824 has 1x24 pin, 2x8 pin, 1x4pin, 7 molex. Is this correct? So I would have 1 extra 4 pin and 1 extra molex?

Do you know which of those PDB boards support SQ PSUs?

Correct, but...that 4 pin is a floppy style connector with fairly thin wires. For powering SSDs it should be perfectly fine, I wouldn't use it for much else. The molex is standard and has the standard limitations, which are more than enough to provide 75w.

8824. The N24 does not.

That’s all wonderful news!! I can use the 4 pin for the ssds and the molex for the gpu. That’s even better than I was hoping!!

And I got 2 1280x SQ PSUs as free upgrades on my sc846, I was worried I could use them. You solved my last few worries!

Does anyone know what these two cables in the sc846 are? One is the cable that tell the case is open. But what does it plug into on a standard atx motherboard?

The other is a 5 pin cable(with only 4 wires feeding it) that almost looks like a fan cable coming off of they pbd. What would that plug into?

If your mother board doesn't have chassis intrusion connector, you ignore that.

Do you have pictures for the other? Guessing it's either pmbus or 4 pin floppy power supply
