I'm considering to replace the SFF-8087 cable with a set of new ones. The Supermicro CBL-0097L-02 and CBL-0097L-03 seems to fit. Anyone knows what's the difference between those 2 SKU? Or do you have any suggestions on alternatives? Looking for a 35/35/40/40cm breakout cable with straight angle plug and no metal clip, and the above Supermicro is a 51cm straight non-clip cable.

It's finally almost done. (Waiting for another HDD tray in stock to fill the last few bays.)

About 190W for HDD to spin up, then floating at about 90W.

Nice setups.

I have a purely home setup, and my plotting is coming to an end due to the cost of more storage drives, especially where I am.

Current Setup (single plot time per drive at the end of the plotting drive line below).

Supermicro 836 chassis - X9DR3-LN4F - Dual 2690v1, 192GB Ram (Approx 20 plots a day)
Plotting drives;
  • 3x 2TB HDD (to be replaced with 10k SAS drives tomorrow) - 13h
  • 3x 300GB 10k SAS drives - 11h
  • 1x 4x 300GB 10K SAS drives (Raid0) - 8h
  • 1x 1TB NVME - 8h
Storage drives;
  • 2x 4TB
  • 2x 2TB (3 more to ba added - see above)
HP ML350p - 2x 2690v1 - 96GB Ram (Approx 20 plots a day)
Plotting drives;
  • 4x 1TB SSD - 9h
  • 1x 1TB NVME - 8h
Storage drives;
  • 2x 4TB
  • 2x 2TB (3 more to ba added - see above)
Supermicro 2U 8 drive chassis - X10SLM-F - E3-1231v3
Plotter if needed, harvester & Splunk server for estate metrics.

Main workstation - i7-8200X - 32GB ram - 2x 1TB NVME (manually run 15 plots a day as used for actual work).
Storage drives (All full);
  • 2x 8TB
  • 1x12TB
  • 1x10TB
Items awaiting delivery
  • Fujitsu TX300 S7 (not really needed now but has taken 3+ weeks to get to me so far).
  • 2x 2690v1 processors (for above)
  • 8x 2.5" drive cage & H240 sas card for ML350P
  • x9-DRi-F motherboard to replace the faulty X9DR3-LN4F (one dead ram channel)
  • 2x Slim ILM active heatskinks
  • 2x square ILM active heatinks for Fujitsu server
  • 2x 1TB Seagate SAS SSD
  • 4x HGST 400GB SAS SSD
  • 4x 6TB HDD (best price per TB available at the time)
I also have a couple of x9SCM 1U server (E3-1270v1 & 32GB ram) but they are pretty noisy and I have no garage / basement etc to put tthem in so WAF was pretty low.

Things to test
Speed of a 2x 10k drive array vs the 4x 10k array as parallel will probably beet speed.
Tuning based on Slunk dashboards I am currently building.

Do you have wider shots? I am confused about this set up.

I'll start.

Shown is the hot aisle for most of my chia farm. Servers showing 12x drive bays are 36 bay servers. I have 3 more 36 bay servers hosted at a real datacenter for the moment. What is shown is in an evaporatively cooled warehouse.

Everything that's not in a 36 bay here is a plotter. Able to plot 150TB/day. Currently 2PB plotted, should be able to hit at least 3.5PB with what I have on hand.

Very impressive setup! And very neat cabling as well.
What's running on those 36-bay servers? Do you use any RAID? What OS does the farming machine run, Windows or Linux?
Sorry if too many questions, I am genuinely curious:)

Thanks!

Right now, most of these have dual 2680v3, 64gb ram. Ubuntu. All drives individually addressed with their own mount point (no raid or anything fancy). 10g networking to move plot files onto the servers.
