I'm thinking about installing 3 indoor PoE switches (EAP245/EAP225-Wall) and 2 outdoor APs (EAP 225), also have two machines requiring 10GbE (home lab & NAS). PoE cameras are also in the ToDo, at least 3 to start.

I'm after a fanless switch that would accommodate the initial load (might deploy two if demand grows). My options are currently:

- Ruckus ICX 7150-C12P
- Juniper EX2300-C-12P

Any recommendations on which one to choose?, are there better alternatives?. Seems the ICX doesn't need a license to enable 10GbE anymore and the firmware updates are freely available, not sure about that for the EX.

Cisco c3560cx-8xpd
It’s also fanless, support POE+, 2 x 10G copper and 2 x 10G fiber

just throwing out another option, if you want to stick to the choice of 2 I would go the ICX.

I am sure all 3 choices would do a fine job.

While the Cisco 3560cx is one of the few (only?) fanless switches that supports two 10GBase-T ports and POE for six ports (240W POE budget), I don't believe the firmware is freely available. I would love to be proven wrong on the firmware.

The Juniper stuff you typically just need to make an account on Juniper.net with a valid serial # the first time, then you can get to all the f/w downloads and updates from any product line.

Don't you need a valid support license to be able to download firmware etc? At least that was the case for me when I bought a couple of ex3300 off ebay. Might be different with the ex2300 if it's newer.

I have Aruba 2930F-8G running in my home. Have extra if you're interested.
8x 1Gbps POE+ ports.
2x 10G SFP+ ports.

Running 3x Aruba 303H Ap with POE. 10Gbps NAS and Workstation and etc.
Supports all the enterprise features you might ever need: BGP, OSPF, do1x, etc

I use a few EX2300-C's in combination with little cheap Mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN POE switches to get a few more 10Gbps ports.
Love the combination :D

Regarding the firmware for de Cisco c3560cx-8xpd, I have this model (6 GE, 2 MG, 2 SFP+) and I can just download the firmware freely from the Cisco website. Only need an account. That is all.
Mine is about 5 years old now I think. Downloaded firmware several times.

The Cisco is also a mature platform, not a lot of software updates really. But yes with any Cisco account I think you can download, I don’t think I have anything special about my personal account and I seem to be able to get it.
