Yeah, actually considering also 6c/ 12 threads. The E5-1650 v3 is really inexpensive. I can see some a bit over 100, others under. Definitely fits the budget. For the E5-2xxx processors, aside the the W sku, any other obvious advantage besides the 2s and core count?

If I choose E5-1650 v3, if I use unraid, will I be able to use Turbo? Saw your post with iamspartacus about choosing the right cores threads.

in some instances more L3 cache or a better tdp but those are very case specific you'd want to check ark. Some 2xxx chips were simply more popular and easier to find as well, the e5-2670 was in EVERYTHING so those chips are usually inexpensive even if they aren't the most desirable today(12c but only 2.3 to 3.1ghz) where a 2680 or 2690 would be better clock wise, and occasionally you find 2xxx chips that aren't on ARK since they were custom for a single vendor though they may be customized in odd ways(I don't belive the E5-2678 v3 an hp custom has any turbo boost)

so using unraid, will still allow me to get close to turbo frequency on cores assigned to VM? This is gaming related :D

As long as you dont have much else in the background stressing the CPU like other containers.

@IamSpartacus , yeah, with 6 cores/ 12 threads, I don't think I have much room to stress the processor. Plan to assign 4 cores/8 threads to Unraid VM, 1c/1t might be assigned Linux VM, 1c/1t left with Unraid. You think that will be alright?
