pkgsrc - keep dependencies separate

Dear OmniOS users,

I'm wondering how feasible it would be for me to install pkgsrc and keep all its dependencies separate in OmniOS 151030?

I keep finding myself needing packages that are not available in the omniosce repos. pkgsrc installs all its own dependencies into /opt/local

Is there a way to make sure that these are not adopted for use by the primary system, and only used for pkgsrc-installed programs?

There is no dependency for any default OS service with /opt/local so this is pkgsrc only. I would only create a ZFS filesystem for /opt otherwise booting an older BE will reset all /opt files.
