Picked up a new R720...

I picked up a new R720 today for use as a SQL server for a client of mine. The vast majority of what I work with is older gear or tower servers. This thing is incredibly quiet! I'm stunned at the lack of noise at idle. Gotta love new power-efficient gear. Anyone know if the R710's were this quiet? I literally can have this thing sitting 6' away and not be annoying!

The UPS in the rack at work makes considerably more noise than the R515. I thought I'd gone deaf when I powered down the last 2950.

LOL. I remember when I first powered up an R710 with 2950's in the background. I thought it was broken because I was pretty sure it was shutting down right after spinning up the fans. I don't know how much quieter the 720s are.

R710's are loud! at least mine is!

I have an r710 in the rack in my home office, its no louder than my gaming rig. Besides the UPS in the rack is way louder.

yeah R710's are not quiet... I have a couple in storage
