I'm currently in the process of setting up a pfsense server capable of doing 10gbe routing between vLANs on virtual distributed switches.
The Virtual Distributed Switches are set up with 2 x Intel X710-da2's. Two VM's running Ubuntu are capable at doing 10Gbps+ through iPerf directly to each other. I have also tested two FreeBSD VMs and they are also able to achieve 10Gbps+. When I attempt to put the pfsense firewall between it (one on WAN and one on a LAN) I am only able to achieve 1.5Gbps on iPerf.
I have also tried running iPerf from Pfsense to Ubuntu on a VDS LAN and vice versa with between 700Mbps and 1.5Gbps. I am also receiving interrupt storm detected on the VDS LAN interface Irq.
PFsense is running VMXNet3 NICs on ESXi. See attached.
