That diddy firewall does look really interesting. I'm quite the fan of the smaller ubnt edgerouters, would be very interested to see a competitive product line from pfSense.

So if they made an arm release for sg-1000 shouldn't they be able to provide one for Pi? Now we just need a Pi update w/ two nics :-D

Raspberry Pi's are not known for using good network controllers.

Yeah I think they are breadcom based, better than realtek's but I wonder what the sg-1000 uses, Intel phys?

You won't get too far with pfSense on pi. To keep costs down the pi's Ethernet 'shares' the USB2.x interface to the ARM SoC. So you'll never get more than ~150-200mbps through the pipe. Half that for full-duplex traffic needed in a firewall. Even Odroid suffers from this same low-budget nic design.

The sg1000 is a bit smarter, uses a small switch chip and uses an ARM SoC with a bit better IO performance. That's part of why it's more expensive than Pi (the rest is pure markup/margin). But even with that they only rate it for 300mbps throughput.

I think many 'super budget' setups/home connections could get away w/ 100-200Mbps Pi performance if this was ever an option, the sg-1000 doesn't look too bad for a pre-packaged solution but the APU2 for $170 'all-in' is a 4 core 1 Ghz, 2-4 Gb memory platform w/ 3 intel nics (useful for DMZ/backup WAN circuit w/ CARP failover/etc.). Anyways just dreaming :-D

EDIT: My bad, I just sh|t the thread up bringing up a completely different topic (somewhat related though)
