Parrot OS, KDE vs Mate?

So I just upgraded one of my Parrot OS computers to 7, and went with the default KDE version... Why do I hate it so much?

Think I'm going to go with their Mate version again, because it feels "comfortable".

The only other desktop I use is XFCE4 on my Debian systems, I've tried others, but I just can't come to grips with any of them. I'm obviously not skinning them correctly because even Debian's default Mate feels "wrong".

That’s totally normal. KDE is really powerful but can feel a bit overwhelming if you’re used to simpler desktops like Mate or XFCE.

KDE always felt bloated to me, and I never liked the way it visually rendered. Cinnamon is my current favorite. There are Debian packages for Cinnamon if you want to try it.

I'm moving hardware around to avoid a junky awow branded mini-pc (j4105), I'm going to load their spin with Mate on the "better" hardware. An old Mele Quieter2Q (j4125) that I've had for a long time. It was doing work as a Windows AD, but I upgraded that to a Mele Quieter4C (n100) and Server 2025 evaluation (for now).

Went back to the Mate spin for 7.1, it just "feels" better, can't really put anything tangible on this feeling. Also ditched that awow pc, which was certainly not a wow at all. Some oddities with the Mele 2q, but I'll sort that out as I go, probably a driver issue.
