I bought a Terramaster F8 SSD Plus and the hardware is exactly what I was looking for. The problem was it lost my data, probably due to a cloud synchronisation with encryption bug. I waited for a bit for an update and there have been no updates to TOS 6 for half a year...

I tried installing unraid, only the lack of proper snapshotting meant I didn't go ahead and buy a licence. The cloud synchronisation also appeared poor.

It's currently running Truenas, which seems to do everything I want, apart from the inbuilt cloud synchronisation is rather poor, in that's it's only one was and often appears to hang.

Could anyone suggest what the way forward is? Should I install another OS, should I use rclone docker containers on Truenas?

My requirements:
  • Encryption, ideally for the whole volume
  • SMB & NFS
  • iSCSI
  • Docker containers
  • Cloud synchronisation
I'm still running my antique Synology, which has been rock solid for years and does everything in the list above. If it hasn't been for the outdated hardware and decisions like their disc policy, killing Video Station and HEIC support etc then I'd have bought another and not looked back!
