OmniOS and Xeon D - do Intel X552/X557 NIC drivers work?

I'm thinking about making a Xeon D based napp-it and OmniOS system. Does anyone know if the onboard Intel X552 or X557 NIC drivers are out of box or do I need to compile something?

I'm hoping someone knows so I don't have to provision and try this out myself. I'm trying to bounce back after a "throw the keyboard against the wall" kind of day yesterday where nothing worked.

Have you tried OpenIndiana Hipster, Openindiana 151a was not updated for years?
Hipster is quite up to date with Illumos like OmniOS is where 10G driver for Celeron/Xeon-D are available for some time (Up from current 151018 stable)

about 10G
Windows and OmniOS needs some tunings as they are both optimized for 1G and low cpu and RAM needs

I believe I tried Hipster, I can double check. I know the Gig NICs where shown as up, but not the 10G. There were 2 igbe devices but no ixgbe devices.

If you tried Hipster then you may need to wait for the next update.
If you do not need the desktop edition with GUI, OmniOS is the better server option (stable with support)

Current 151014 and later of OmniOS and any reasonably recent SmartOS image will have my updates to the ixgbe driver which introduced support for X552/X557 PHY and X550EM MAC on the Xeon-D chips. In fact, a SuperMicro D-1540 system was my development platform for those changes. Also works fine on the X550-T[12] PCIe add-on cards. One thing to note - the X557 PHY does not support the NBASE-T speeds which are mentioned in Intel's generic X550 marketing documentation... NBASE-T capability is currently only available on the PCIe add-on card.
