OmniOS 151030 LTS

OmniOS 151030 long term support/LTS is expected in May 2019.
It comes with an SMB 2.1 client (allows to join Active Directory when SMB1 is disabled), Uefi boot, USB 3.1 and a newer Perl 5.30 among others.

Perl 5.30 requires support from newest napp-it, see napp-it // webbased ZFS NAS/SAN appliance for OmniOS, OpenIndiana and Solaris Changelog so update napp-it prior updating OmniOS to newest 151029 bloody for early tests or then 151030 LTS final.

would love to see a all-in-one image for esxi 6.0 ...

since upgrading is not recommneted as omni has changed drastically since 151022 and I have tried esxi 6.5 and 6.7 on this hardware and its not supported and for good reason.. performance and stability were not as good.

ESXi 6.0 is ok when using the old Windows vsphere but buggy with the new html5 webclient.

What you can do if you want an ESXi 6 storage VM
- create a VM (Solaris 11-64, 30 GB, boot from OmniOS iso) and install OmniOS
- add vmware tools (pkg install open-vm-tools)
-install napp-it per wget

- use vmxnet3 for storage, optionalle e1000 for management

My ova template adds some tuning, TLS installed but basically you have now a working storage VM.

If you are using OmniOS 151030 LTS under ESXi you should update the Open-VM-tools to v.11

With the latest update for ESXi 6.0 the open-vm-tools package for LTS 151030 guests shows up as 'Running - Unsupported' in the VM console. It is unclear whether it is the wrong version or just some...
