Old server died, what to replace it with

Well I wasn't planning on replacing my current server before I moved but today while replacing a cpu cooler the motherboard is now longer working . So although funds are tight I am trying to decide if I should upgrade to a dual e5-2670 CPU and motherboard. Or just get a cheaper and short term motherboard and i5. Not sure what why I am going on this on

If you want advice, you may want to tell folks what the old system was used for and whether the new one is supposed to serve the same purpose or if you want additional features/functionality.

What doesn't work? Did you physically break something? Did you remember to plug the 4/8 pin ATX12V plug back in? I can't remember how many times I have reassembled systems, turned them on, scratched my head because they didn't work then remembered that silly little plug.

Well after yet another rebuild it's now working
