I guess it depends on what you want to do with it... You removed it after the laptop broke? If the drive is still working, you can use an external USB adapter to access it. You could also install it into another laptop, but Windows tends to be annoying when you do that.

If the drive itself isn't broken then yes you should be able to use is elsewhere.
If it is an old ATA drive (has a grid of 2x22 pins on the back instead of a normal SATA connector) you will need to get an adapter to use it with something from this decade.

Any USB to SATA adapter should be fine then. Something like this Amazon.com: Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter Cable for 2.5" SSD/HDD Drives - SATA to USB 3.0 External Converter and Cable(UA1002): Computers & Accessories will let you plug the drive in as a usb external drive so you can copy files off of it to somewhere else.

If you want something for more than a single use, you can get an empty enclosure to put the drive in like Amazon.com: [Upgraded Version Support UASP] Sabrent Ultra Slim USB 3.0 to 2.5-Inch SATA External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure [Black] (EC-UK30): Computers & Accessories
