While transferring a mix of files ranging from large (4gb+) and small (a few hundred kb) over a 25GB connection, I notice that speed would spike to anywhere between 600MB/s~1.2GB/s and then slows down to 9mb/s rather than more or less stay at a consistent speed. This speed pattern would repeat itself every 30 seconds or so. This didn't happen when I didn't have a ZLOG attached.
Is this normal behavior?
SPECS:
(4) 4TB 5700 RPM SATA
(1) 16GB Optane M10 connected via USB 3.0 adapter with a Realtek RTL9210 chip
32GB DDR4 RAM
Xeon E3-1245 V5
Mellanox Connect-X 4 25GB.
EDIT: NVM I've removed the ZLOG entirely. I didn't consider the unstable nature of some NVME USB adapters (chipsets used in them, ASM, RTL and JMicron drives all seem to exhibit connectivity issues from system to system). Using these as ZLOG, even if the SSD is an Optane drive is a terrible idea.
