That ebay one can be fit into a regular 3,5 drive bay which means -A backplane should work at full speed provided proper cooling is available ...
Not sure whether it wors as good as advertised but ...

NVME to SAS3?

It says it has PCIE Pin Out how could it convert the NVME pinout to SAS3 when SAS3 has less pins?

Most nvme backplanes are not going to be 3.5” though they will be 2.5” so this would not be good for that. The sas part of this would be for connecting a sas drive via this adapter to an nvme port not the other way around if I am reading this correctly though I could be wrong

I understood that it would provide a NVMe to SAS3 interface where you can attach the 3,5" drive cage to a SAS3 enabled (dual port) backplane to use it with a SAS3 HBA

Maybe thats wishful thinking and I misunderstood;)

Edit: You might be right, after re reading a couple of times it might be that its SAS|U2 -> U2 (in 3.5) which o/c is significantly easier :/
And then indeed it makes little sense to go up in size

I'm pretty sure this is just an adapter to 3.5" for SAS3 or NVME.

You will still need the required HBA to run either.

That you'd need a HBA was not in doubt, I had hoped for NVMe drive attachment to SAS3 HBAs;)
but I think you are correct, too bad;)
