NVMe M.2 SSDs in U.2 enclosure

Will NVMe M.2 form factor SSDs placed in an U.2 2.5" enclosure perform similar to their U.2 counter parts? And can they be used with the Supermicro's NVMe server lineup? Any enclosure recommendations?

Will perform in same was as they would the M.2 slot, but if in the 2.5 adapter make sure heat transfer pads etc so the cooling is as good or better.

Some U2 units are rated for higher speed than M2 of the same variety. I think heat was the reason for this

Supermicro servers offer compatibility lists for these NVME products such as this:
Servers offer hot swappable trays which don't work quite well. DM if you want to hear my experiences.
It is simply easier to work with a U.2 in the drive bay than to pop open the chassis and add the gum stick. Note for the U.2 drive you will have to check the server and mobo spec and purchase the appropriate cable to hook up the mobo to the backplane into which the trays plug into.
