I agree that gtx 1600 is a much better card.
I got my P2000 when it was routinely BIN between $200-$250 , then the price shot up pass $300.
I won't buy another P2000 again when GTX 1660 works better with unlock driver.

No doubt the GTX would’ve been a better buy, but even with a GPU cage, my application limited me to a 1-slot device. A two slot device with that fan placement in a 2U device wasn’t gonna work. But I personally have no qualms with patching the driver and using it (if I could).

what's the advantage of GTX 1660 for PLEX? i get that the price is cheaper, but other than that is there an advantage in nvenc/nvdec capability? is there a 1660 that is single slot? if the advantage is just about price, then I think maybe 1050 or Quadro P400 would be just as good of a choice, no?

New Turing encoder is higher quality. Also the 6GB of RAM gives it good headroom.

If you planning to spend over $200, GTX 1660 is the card to buy for 4K video

If you planning to spend less than $100 ( cheap like me ) ,
then P400, it is single slot, half height card sips power for $60.

Cost isnt the only factor. In fact it wasnt at all for me. I need something that could handle a large workload with good quality at low power usage. My 1660 idles at 0-1w and with 5 transcodes going hovers mainly around 18-25w with spikes in the 30-50w range. It was the best value I could find that could handle at least 10-12 transcodes and a few 4K transcodes (for protection not actual use case).

If you only need to support a few transcodes than the P400 is a terrific value.

I picked up a p600 from work from a dead workstation, it works great.

P2000 benefits (mentioned in thread, but not summarized) over similarly spec'ed consumer careds:
  • Single slot, not 1.5 or 2 slots
  • 4x DisplayPort (if you want to use this for display)
  • No external PCIe power required, gets all it's power from the motherboard

Running the P2000 aswell myself for plex, works perfectly. But im a little unsure about the idle powerdraw which I read somewhere was quite high.. I run it in a windows vm, so both de/en-code works out of the box.

OT: You need GRID arch to be able to run both gamestream and plex services off the same card right? - unless you run it all in a single VM.. but thats not really my cup of tea in terms of resources etc..

And of course the fact that you can pass it through to a VM without hassle since it is a Quadro

Do you know of a list of compatible gamestream GPUs? Looking for something cheap and single slot for a daily driver VM.

Is there a 1660 single slot anyone has seen? I'm currently using a P4000 since it was the fastest single slot card I could get but i'd love to have more options in that area.

There is not, otherwise I'd have gotten it.
