mixed up the ports and protocols.
Hi as a noob with wthis JBOD and here on great forum, I also have noob questions 
I have 3 such JBODs and only one is working with any HDDs.
2 of them have constant red LED status light on for every HDD, even with the officially listed compatible HGST drives, connected with 2 SAS cables to same HBA Broadcom 9300 8e.
Do you have any clue how to diagnose it and get it running? How to identify between Gen1 and Gen2? The stickers are a bit different, but on the two that don't work it says REV: 06
Is the firmware even available and downgrade possible? I want to at least get it running with HGST drives.

My guess is that the ones that are not working have come out of a Hitachi VSP system. The one that is working was sold as a JBOD. The ones from the VSP won't spin up the drives. I think the difference between Gen1 and Gen2 can be deduced from the caddies. The Gen1 have a metal lever/handle while Gen2 is much more plastic. What I think are Gen1 caddies fall to pieces if the drive is removed, which is not the case with Gen2. The URL shows pictures of what I believe is a Gen2 caddy with a 2.5" drive installed. That is another difference; you can screw 2.5" drives directly into a Gen2 caddy, if I am correct.
I have pulled the 2.5" 120GB SATA drives from a G200 and G400 and dumped them to disk as file. Not examined them properly yet, but binwalk indicates they are running TheadX on MIPS. There are strings such as "Copyright (c) 1996-2010 Express Logic Inc" and "ThreadX MIPS32_1004K_VPE/Green Hills Version G5.4.5.0" the last is odd because Green Hills from a quick Google seem to be a rival RTOS vendor to Express Logic. Note that Microsoft purchased Express Logic back in 2019 and renamed it to Azure RTOS. Then in 2023 it was transferred to the Eclipse foundation, is now open source but appears to be mainly ARM. It is now called Eclipse ThreadX
