System specs:
CPU: Intel Xeon E-2288G
Motherboard: Gigabyte C246M-WU4
Memory: Crucial CT16G4WFD8266 (on support list)
BIOS: F3 (latest)
OS: RHEL8 (latest kernel)

Problem:
I don't think ECC is working? Please see below. Do you have any advice? Something I am missing? I'm getting ready to buy an X11SCA-F motherboard instead. Sadly three months waiting for the E-2288G means I can't return the C246M-WU4. Many kind thanks!

I don't know what kernel you're running, but does edac-util report anything ECC-wise?

A quick search through LKML shows that the patch for coffee lake support for EDAC (basically just the device IDs) only landed in june.

Thanks!! I definitely missed that. Confirmed - there is no edac Coffee Lake support in my kernel.

Just to confirm - although my Linux kernel doesn't, Memtest86 shows that ECC is enabled. Thanks again EffrafaxOfWug!
