Which newer Xeon's have ECC RDIMM support?

Before it was very easy

E3 - ECC UDIMM
E5, E7 - ECC RDIMM

What the heck is up with Xeon naming?

entry workstation/server, multi-socket support, integrated GPU.. it used to be so clear

now its Silver, Gold, Platinum kinda makes sense but E- vs W- is not helpful as there's no clear distinction between features particularly UDIMM vs RDIMM support

if there are under 2011 pins in the socket, no RDIMM(actual CPU, not the older)
dual channel memory controller = no RDIMM

Generally, if it shares a socket with the consumer line then UDIMM. Otherwise RDIMM. Hasn't really changed with the new naming.

Thanks, that's a helpful guideline.

Intel changes their socket every other month so I have no clue what is what. Is it newer if the numbers go up or down?

For consumer, I think its LGA1151 -> LGA1150 -> LGA1200 -> LGA1700 ??
2011 -> 2011-3 -> ?? lost track now

vs

AMD:

AM3 -> AM4 -> AM5
Opteron -> ... -> SP3

Only trying to find a "modern" RDIMM platform since I have quite a few RDIMM left over and the 2011 and 2011-v3 are not worth the power anymore.

2011-3 2011-0 was the last socket to use DDR3 RDIMM; if the leftover RDIMMs you want to use are DDR3, then your only recourse is to sell them.

The "BGA" in "BGA1667" implies that yes, it is soldered to the board... but it still needs all the lanes/pads wired in for all of the memory channels.

It's a hefty chip considering all of the connectivity it provides.
but still off topic because you quoted my msg: "if there are under 2011 pins in the socket...."
