As some of you have guessed, yes, this is for video (as in video editor) storage. It's a small team of 8, but they'll be working off the server directly.

Hey @GCM I saw you had a recent scare but this is hopefully some good news. Thank you for sharing. I'd love to hear more about the S655DC as there isn't too much on those drives.

If I could have given you double likes I would have.

I wanted to address a few questions in a separate post, so here it is:

My core is all 10GbE, with most of it bonded. We're not ready for 40GbE yet, but I've been keeping an eye on our various teams, and expect we'll be there in the next year or so.

The video workstations will have Sanlink2 SFP+'s.

As for backing up offsite, that isn't too much of an issue, as we've got a 1GbE line, which can easily keep up with the daily backups.

I was just thinking about 128GB SATA DOMs after I got my 64s last year... glad to see they're out and not stupid (although expensive) for what they are.

Won't know too much until I dive more into the configuration, however, the specs on these drives is what drove me to them. They offer excellent iops, write & read, and lifespan.

Thanks!

Now comes the fun part of trying to rack it without a rack lift and solo!

You definitely want to rack it with all the components out (drives & power supply), unless you have a few Hercules on the staff :)
