New switch recommendations to replace 7450-48p

I am looking for a new switch or two since the ICX7450-48p I run now is a power hog (as is the 7450-24 non poe I have as counterpart at 53 for a few 1G and 1 40G uplink).

The 7450 is configured with a 4xSFP+ module (2 in use), 4xBaseT (2 in use), 1x40G (in use) , 10-20 1G ports in use and 4 poE Devices with a total power draw of 15W.

So requirements...

1. 24+ 1G ports (*duh*)
2. 2.5/5G ports a plus (at least a bunch, don't need all of them to be capable)
3. PoE++ would be a bonus... although I can get a dedicated PoE switch too if needed or run a few injectors, its 4 devices only at this point
4. 40G uplink would be nice, 25G is ok too. Ideally the port runs high power transceivers
5. 2+ ports of 10G Base-T
6. 2+ ports of 10G SFP+
7. VLAN's
8. Netflow or an alternative
9. SNMP (no brainer in the class we're talking about)
10. power efficient
11. ideally available used and cheap

I don't do routing on my switches, having a VLAN interface helps with debugging though

Before moving to the Brocades i ran Cisco Small Business (SG350X's) which were ok but didnt have 40G uplinks. Before those I ran Netgear S3300's but those didnt have sflow... but 17W power draw


Anyone got recommendations?
I saw the Ubiquity USW-EnterpriseXG-24 but ... no.
Are the Microtik CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM capable of netflow? (if running with 2 SFP->BaseT Adapters)

Well I do use the webinterface for quick adjustments to be honest, but in the end CLI is a nice bonus.

Usually I dont do much config after the initial setup, so I'll survive if there is no cli... but I would expect that a switch that has netflow & 40G will have some kind of cli since thats not your typical consumer requirements

There's the fs.com switch series - the S5860-24XB-U has 24 ports of PoE++ and is multi-gig. And it has 4x10Gb SFP and 4x25Gb SFP in addition to the 24 copper ports. And it supports sFlow

I resorted to giving up my ICX6610s and moving to a U24-XG +MS510TXUP for the same reason. And the server rack temps went from 32c to 29c

I dont think it will be power saving though with 24 10G BaseT ports... and yes, the price is not something I am too keen on. Prolly not available used much

I am running an Elastiflow server to see who all the little gadgets talk to. Dont really *need* it, but its interesting

I have a spare 7450-24 non p, so i could move to that one + a PoE switch...
I could run another SG350X-8PMD but I doubt i find it at competitive prices at this point, and its not really power saving either - 53W with a PoE load of 19W, so 34W for the switch itself...

Whats the power draw (without poe usage if you know it) of the MS510TXUP?

Netgear quotes ~ 30w idle without anything connected. I got the MS510 since I had originally planned to put Ruckus R720s and R750s everywhere but right now the price of a R720/R750 is astronomical hence went in for a couple of UniFi Mesh 6 APs.

Strictly speaking, did not need the MS510 since the UniFi APs don't need 802.3bt or multi-gig but I got the switch for $580 which is actually a good price hence decided to keep it

I am not a big fan of Ubiquiti switches either since I hate anything that requires a separate controller - but at this point it is the cheapest multi-gig option for > 8 ports. Of course it is nowhere near as sophisticated as a proper DC switch which means no Netflow or RoCE etc. On the other hand, it does do proper multi-gig, at least in the limited testing I have done (will do more over the weekend) and that is a big plus

Are you looking for sampled flow or 1:1 flow monitoring?

As you say, this thread is partly for future reference. With that in mind, you get to choose one of the following:

• Cheap
• Efficient
• Powerful

I get what you are saying and can empathize.. my home lab is sitting around 450W, but that is mostly due to multiple spinning rust platters and not the switch. Many of the switch features you list are still considered "enterprise" grade with a commensurate price and/or power tag. Sure, you can look at MikroTik on the switch side and Aquantia on the client side, but I view both of them with some skepticism. Just my personal opinion.

When you do find that unicorn switch with (Q)SFP28 ports, 2.5/5/10GbE RJ-45, NetFlow/SFlow that costs $250 on the used market, do let me know...

I would consider powerful and efficient and medium priced

Edit - so Netgear does support sflow on the managed switches... but o/c they only have PoE+ on those (and no 25/40G uplinks)

I think I'm looking for a similar unicorn, slightly tweaked requirements. All I'm seemingly coming back with are:
Brocade ICX7450 <<< You already have
Mikrotik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM <<< I have no exposure to Mikrotik, unsure if I desire to try or not. Likely low power and in budget.
Dell N2248PX-ON <<< expensive because new

No. Well icx7750-24zp, but I am not sure how well it works at powersaving. Prolly just more perf (multi gigabit) for same wattage...

Atm focussing on replacing the 48p with a 24 + a separate poe switch... but 7150 c10zp is a ghost and c12p ridiculously expensive at this time.... as are the cisco's i considered.
So kinda stuck until I happen to stumble upon a great deal...

Also looking for a similar switch, I immediately fell in love with this one. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about the price, as the specs say it's <78 dB. Can't see how that would be tolerated - even by me - in our home.

The other option is to wait until the newer Broadcom switch SoCs are in the market in quantity

I must be in the wrong corner of the world. These things cost 20k here new, 15k refurbished. If I look across the world on ebay, I can find some for 3k, but "just for spares", i.e. not working, from UAE. Working ones on ebay appear to be around 8k.

Yes, it seems like waiting is the path to go. I thought about going for 2 half-width Netgear M4300, M4300-16X (for PoE - albeit only PoE+) and one M4300--12X-12F. These would fit together in the 1U I have, should be silent, and only eat up 49W max (w/out PoE). But I'm not really happy with the 10G uplink ports for the price of that combo.
