I'm running into a rather unusual problem with a NetApp shelf and I'm running out of ideas.
Hardware
Connection is direct from the 9300-8e to IOM A.
What's working
The enclosure is detected correctly.
sas3ircu reports:
SAS drives work perfectly.
For example, an HP 72GB SAS drive is detected immediately and works without any issues.
What's NOT working
No SATA drive is detected at all.
Tested with:
All drives are installed in original NetApp caddies with original NetApp SATA interposers.
Interposer PCB: 110-00540+A0
Caddy: 111-00721+A0
The same interposer successfully passes SAS drives, so the interposer itself is not completely dead.
Diagnostics
sg_ses reports every SATA slot as empty/invalid.
Only the SAS drive appears.
sas3ircu 0 display also shows only:
There are no STP devices at all.
The SATA drives don't appear as failed or unsupported—they simply never establish a link.
What I've already ruled out
Since SAS works immediately, I don't think this is an HBA or cable issue.
My question
Has anyone seen a DS22412IOM12A / IOM12A combination that does not expose SATA/STP devices to a generic LSI HBA?
Could this be:
I'd appreciate any ideas before I return the shelf to the refurbisher.

- Dual IOM12A
- IOM firmware 0401
- LSI/Broadcom 9300-8e (SAS3008)
