We just purchased a Gigabyte R282-Z92 chassis for AMD EPYC Rome. The chassis has 24 bay for NVMe drives. We ultimately intend on switching our vSphere cluster to HCI, however, for the moment, we plan to just RAID 2 NVMe U.2 drives with a dedicated NVMe RAID controller (HighPoint SSD7120). The problem I have is, the controller card has 4x SFF-8643 ports, but the chassis seems to be using SFF-8087 connectors for the backplane. My question is, would these cables work for my usecase? https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Internal-Cable-SFF-8643-SFF-8087/dp/B01FHNGLK2

Ok I got it. The backplane is actually using slim-SAS connectors. I just need SFF-8643 to slim-SAS cable.

I am not sure if NVME and SAS cable are interchangeable, you might want to do more research just to be sure.
