Hello, picked up a DL180 G6 has one L5520 sans memory and drives recently, am having issues getting it to post.
added HP server ecc/r memory and a boot disk off the sata port, a monitor and usb keyboard, just tot get it up and running as first step.
The green MB light comes on and flashes per normal. When press on button, the f fans initiate, run for a few seconds then cut out, and the heartbeat light is flashing red. Changed to a different set of memory ( to only one stick ), same thing, unplugged all the cables and power supply and re seated, unplugeed the single riser, the ILO port, still the same. Checked to see if the fans where int eh correct headers, as this can be a cause of the above. Changed to L5639, still the same. Re seated the battery. PS the memory work in other machines OK.

Any pointers and tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Peter

Did you get a unit that includes iLO (IPMI)? The iLO operates using a small SOC processor of is own called a BMC and may be able to give you some information about what is going on.

Plug the server in - you don't need to power it up - and connect the iLO to your LAN. Find its address and log in. You should be able to view the error logs and perhaps get some idea of what is upsetting the POST process.

Also - try minimizing the system. Unplug everything from PCIe slots. Remove all but one stick of RAM. See if it will POST with just the bare minimum plugged in.

Good luck!

Still having boot trouble I see. Darn.

Just to confirm, what model of DIMM did you install and in what slot? Try with just one DIMM, 2GB to 16GB, DDR3 800-1333 speed, single rank or dual, registered or not. Install it in the DIMM bank next to the "long" side of the CPU1 socket - the bank to the side of the socket. Install it in slot 2A.

Have you tried removing the RAM, booting, and checking for beep codes?

inspect for bent pin. I had a board do that with a bad cpu (e5620 straight up died) ILO still functions! everything else looked fine.

Sounds exactly like what happened. use a magnifier to check for bent pins on cpu socket!
