Please see attached.. This is how my RAID1 setup

Problem is - specs is really bad. I run HDTune Pro read test and it shows ~130Mbs

I have another drive (bootable drive - older Samsung 830 with Win7) and it shows ~350 in a same test. RAID built with newer drives, whats wrong? Also, see how it says SSD Caching "disabled" - no option from what I can tell to enable it. Any suggestions?

You want DIRECT mode, NO READ-AHEAD, WRITE-THROUGH CACHE! That's a big problem right there!

Are you talking about "Default write" option? I'm home already, so can't check what is there..

Another thing - chip get's real hot. I can burn finger by touching heat sink. Is it normal for LSI cards?

they are designed to sit in servers with lots of airflow, see if you can get a fan to move some air over it.

Could You Please advise. How to replace heatsink and add fan to LSI 9271 card.
What kind of 3mm x 15mm screws and Fan to use. Thank You.

Any 40mm fan and what do you mean "what kind" of screw, he mentioned the exact dimensions that's what you need.

I have to have a 40mm fan on my LSI card or it simply does not work, over heats. In my SM chassis, it's not really an issue though with all the air flow. I think I saw my LSI card almost hitting 100*

One of the raid card owner suggest: To get a very quiet (14dBA) 40mm fan (5cfm), and a couple sheet metal screws at just the right depth and diameter, and attached it directly to the heat sink, slightly offset from the center of the die. The heat sink is barely warm with this low CFM fan.

I use a Noctua fan myself, but I also have some very faster ones to use if needed... it works though :)

How do you know it overheats? Mine is very hot, however everything works.. It's regular desktop case, air being pushed through and there is a bunch of space around card..

Because it was not being detected during BOOT after it had warmed up. I put a fan on it, and have NEVER had the issue again even stress testing and rebooting, etc...

Wasn't able to stay away, so I placed an order for this fan. For couple bucks if it prevents failure - let's do it :)

When this "server" was my desktop I was paranoid about fans. It has silent case, all low speed stuff from Noctua (CPU sink as well), fanless PS, GPU, etc. Now this box goes away from my desk so it's ok if there is 1 more 40mm fan inside :)

That's what's strnage about the LSI cards. LSI doesn't put fans on them, but Intel, HP, etc seem to almost always have them on their cards. I'm guessing it has to do with the chassis their made to go in.

BUT

It's a sign that these get super hot :)

I installed this -> Sunon HA40201V4 ( double depth 40mm fan with 4700RPM) very very quite compared with low RPM single depth 40mm.
the price $15-$17.. can be search on ebay or newegg (two of my primary site)

to install on heatsink, double sided thremal sticker or double sided heavy duty tape(3M Red) can be used.

Finally installed my fan, dried temps from 85C to 58C. Fan blowing into chip and connected to motherboard fan header.
