There are plenty of options (ready made or self built), depends on the # of drives and type (2.5/3.5) you're looking for...

Eg HGST 4u60 in various generations, there are similar from other vendorts, up to 90 I think
or the more normal Supermicro 24/36 port JBOD ones with SAS3EL2 backplanes,
or o/c a self built regular SM Server with JBOD card (cse-ptjbod-cs[1-3])

And plenty more I guess

Yep - have read a fair bit about the 4u60 and SM (our VM nodes are mostly their 2U quad nodes). The 40u60 initially feels like overkill, to really cover VM pool and cold storage. We'd probably start with a 2U 24 SFF shelf and add on another 2U 12 bay LFF shelf, but it does make sense that a 4u60 would cover that and have room for future expansion, although i would highly doubt ever needing 60 bays.

But for a change was looking at the off-lease/refurbished arena instead, but it looks like Chia has made that a little bit more difficult these days. I guess we will just have to keep an eye out on eBay and whatnot.
