Yes if you're using SAS HDD's you'll want the SFF8482 connector on the breakout cables.

You'll also see for sale breakout cables that go straight to SATA. which is just for SATA drives.

Note that the SFF-8482 connectors include a power connector and there have been a couple questionable SATA connectors of that style, so some people prefer to get cables with 4 pin Molex power connectors.

I ordered today a 9300-8i card and a SFF-8643 to SFF-8482 cable. Might take a while to arrive.

i just wanted to ask, dont know if it will effect me but is it true that i might have to Kapton tape pin 3 on the drive connector?
some people go on about the drive not powering up.

If you got 4 pin Molex power connectors that's not a problem because they don't supply 3.3V, if you got SATA power connectors then it's possibly an issue, most SAS drives don't do PWDIS but some do, just something to figure out once you put everything together.

In another thread an OP reported a problem that ended up being PWDIS on 15.36TB SAS SSD's - white label via the bay. I bought two to go with the others I have collected and can confirm PWDIS on those sas drives. IMO best to do just the 8482's with molex connectors and not the SATA connectors - otherwise you build this silly chain of cable adapters.

Alternately you could cut the orange wire from the SATA connector, I'm pretty sure nothing needs it.

Thankyou for letting me know, i ordered the type with the SATA power connecter, but if it doesn't work i will get the one with the molex.
I just have to wait for the card and cable to arrive first, then i will find out.
At the moment though i only have 2 4TB 7200rpm SAS HDDs to try.
I might try to get a SAS SSD later, if it works of course. ;)
