OK, I've sidestepped a bit to try to learn something but I'm not getting anywhere fast - so would appreciate if someone wouldn't mind stepping me through how to add datastorage to ESXI (on which I can install a VM).

This is what I have (on a separate network/router not connected to the internet):
-PC with Win XP - for vSphere client / napp-it admin
-Server with ESXI 6 + napp-it all-in-one (napp-it_15d)
1* 128GB SSD Intel S3500 for ESXI + omnios/napp-it
2*1TB magnetics mirrored (will be used for storage/backup)
2* 128GB SSD Intel 3500 (VM_store area).
ESXI IP: 10.100.1.115
OmniOS ip: 10.100.120
router 10.100.1.1
(further details in screenshots)

I can start and stop napp-it_15d via ESXI and connect to OmniOs via napp-it 10.100.1.120:81.
I can ping OmniOs (10.100.1.120) from ESXI shell (directly on host)

First question - napp-it indicates two users (admin and operator) on the login screen, but I can't find either when I list users - what did I miss out here when I installed OmniOS (I thought I had to just add a password) ?
In the meantime I added the user "vmadmin" to ESXI, OMniOS and Windows in case I needed it.

Am I missing anything in defining the datastore on OmniOS / what do I need to type in the ESXI screen for adding datastorage ?
