Greetings all. I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this isn't the right category to post in. I'm trying to build my first homelab server. I will use it for a gaming panel, lancache server for some steam games and as a storage for my personal files/photos/videos. And maybe more, i don't know, i'm still learning. I don't care about the price. I only want to know if this is a good build to start from:

CPU: AMD Threadripper 1920X
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3
Motherboard: ASRock X399M Taichi
RAM: 2x Kingston Server Premier 16GB DDR4-3200 CL22
Storage: 2x Seagate IronWolf Pro 4TB + Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe
Case: Fractal Design Define R5
PSU: MSI MAG A750GL 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular
UPS: CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD

What do you think? Is it good?

Consumer hardware is really bad for many things, especially the SSD's are a joke. Samsung 990 Pro is among the slowest SSD's out there: source: Solidigm P44 Pro Linux Performance Review - Phoronix However, since that is a consumer SSD test, there is no guarantee that faster SSD's honor FLUSH command. Enterprise SSD's must honor flush. Or else they are garbage and cause expensive issues.

Just get H11SSL / H12SSL, with a 24/32 core Epyc, like 7302
Get 8x 16gb ECC memory

Ignore hard drives, at those sizes just go all in on SSD's. The hard drives are so slow they are not worth it. In yuor case, you pay only 50% less per TB for 10000 times worse performance.

Get enterprise grade SSD's, plenty of them on Ebay for bargain. The performance difference is HUGE. For writes, they can be 10000 times faster.
Also there are options for coolers that give you more bang for the buck, like thermalrigt peerlees assasin. But that is just a minor detail.

This is a joke, right? You could build a much more powerful/capable system for far less money than these components cost. For example, if price doesn't matter, why on earth are you choosing an eight year old processor?

It isn't a joke. I'm newbe to choose hardware component. So i used pcpartpicker as a starting point. But i'm realizing now that it wasn't a good idea
