So I recently got a 1.65 TB fusion io ssd which was fantastic except for the fact it runs hotter than my cpu at 63C. After a day of looking for usb and pcie fan I thought about mounting a fan directly onto my ssd which was near impossible. Then I realized I can glue a sff pc fan to a mounting bracket and plug the fan into a 3 pin. And that’s exactly what I did. Except I don’t have any strong glue, so I drilled holes into the fan and screwed the fan into my bracket. Now my ssd is at 43C when idle and runs less than 60C most of the time.
drawbacks:
-occupies a pcie slot
-the fan didn’t work when I populated 3 of my pcie slots, so I removed everything except for my wifi card and ssd. Probably power constraints.
-fan noise

cool! I've thrown in AOC Fc-2000-b blower plugged into 7v under the fusion io card

Yeah I was thinking about that, but I had fans lying around from a windows XP pc so I figured it was a fun experiment.
Update: It appears the fan connector likes to only turn the fan on every other boot so not a problem with the pcie. I did a disk clone and only hit 46C max so it definitely helps.

It's your case. I don't see a mid plane fan/fan wall. I'm assuming there's at least one or more front fans, but most likely these are the typical case fans (i.e. low static pressure) and slow.

I've got a few 6.4TB fusions in Supermicro 2U cases (The x10DRU/Ultra riser type) and even with the mid plane fans at a very modest ~2000rpm, the fusions stay cool.

This is the output from one of my production boxes:

Unfortunately mine is not a server build and it actually does not have any intake fans. I’m only using it as a test bench and this solution I think is geared more towards people who want to use one of those consumer motherboards. Envious of your build tho!
