Multi-NVMe (m.2, u.2) adapters that do not require bifurcation

While everyones needs/solutions are different, for Dell 3640 mainboard transplanted into a different case, I ended up converting the 2 M.2 M-key slots on motherboard to 2 PCIe x4 and then using a Glotrends PA20 in the only motherboard PCIe x4 slot to connect NVME SSD + 2.5GbE NIC.

Did you ever end up buying a PEX88096? I like many others are looking for solutions to the lack of pcie lanes haha. The PEX88096 seems like a pretty decent buy that you could use for a long time

I did not. I have 2x3090, a 3090Ti, 2x5060Ti and a 5090 and i have 3 zen3 and 1 zen5 system.

If I get a 4th 3090 i would for sure justify a 88096 however with only 3 it seems like 4.0 x4 should be enough for tensor parallel P2P (just barely?)

I also can get about 20gbits more or less via mellanox cards connecting the rigs. I *might* be able to get decent enough pipeline parallel inference over networking. even 1Gbit is more or less okay for pipeline parallel.

Not really feeling all too bad for not having gone for an epyc system at some point. I can lean into the ability to offline various systems when inference is not needed.

I am considering buying PCIe to Multi M.2 adapter.
Initially I was aiming at a Gen3 to Dual M.2, but I saw that the Gen4 to Quad M.2 have come down in price.

Has anybody tried some adapter based on the IX8024 or PEX88024? Did you find some good deals?
