Moving drives from onboard to 9211-8i.

Looked and couldn't find an answer. If I shut down my host and move all the local data stores to a 9211-8i, will all the drives be recognized and the inventory of VMs which are located on the local datastores work? In other words, are the drives (onboard) identified based on drives or paths?

I think esxi uses the controller + drive_name + volume_id to identify locations.

I would remove the vms from the inventory first, then change the hba and after that add the vms back to inventory.

That would work w/o any issue. I move my drives from box to box relatively often. When you just. Power on those VMs, ESXi will ask if you copied or moved them. Just select "moved".

I will remove the VMs from inventory and remount the drives under their new controller.
