Well that was unexpected, got one of those EX4300 switches on the cheap. $280 for a 24 port PoE+ switch, missing 10G module I highly covet in front for now but has the 4 40GbE ports on the back. These seemed to be going for 1K very recently so feelin ok abt it I guess all in all. I know Unix Surplus has one all decked out w/ the 4 ports line card on the front for $1200-1300 currently.

Boom! :-D

I have been drooling over the 3300's and recently the 4300's but neither my pocketbook nor my wall outlet could afford it.

How much juice do they use and how loud are they? Would you put one in the office with yourself or are they strictly lab grade?

The EX3300's I'd put in an office, you'd hear a bit of whine but not bad at all...guess it depends how sensitive to that on a case by case/person basis you are. The EX4300 I am unsure abt environmentals, I will have to see once it gets here but mine sits in the basement anyways so noise is not a huge concern of mine. I'll check pwr usage on both prior to de-comm my EX3300 (you all know what's coming tee heh) and when I put the EX4300 into service and post results back to thread.

EDIT: on a bummer note they 'sneakily' hid the fact that the unit I got does NOT come w/ a PSU, it's very obscure on the listing down in tech specs/notes. Bummed abt that but I see them for $60-100 on ebay now, $250 brand new. Still a great deal.

Enjoy the switch! I was bidding on the same one then saw the missing PSU and bowed out. Spec sheet shows it to be even quieter than the EX3300-24T which is one of the reasons I was eyeballing it.

Did yours come w/ a PSU or both maybe? I'm still sulking abt being blind/tricked and having to go hunt a PSU now. Ya'll see that lot of 4 quad port SFP+ module that went up a bit overnight. Got a few days left on it but we should group pitch in on that listing.

Lot of four Juniper EX-UM-4X4SFP Modules | eBay

I'm in for up to $150 pitch in for 1 module outta that lot of 4, any takers?

WOW that's fantastic news, I saw this:

AC Power Supply in EX4300 Switches - Technical Documentation - Support - Juniper Networks

Pretty interesting the PSU options and how whatever pairing you choose derives how many ports of PoE+ ya get. I only need 3-4 ports of PoE so a 350W PSU (JPSU-350-AC-AFI or JPSU-350-AC-AFO) that provides 6 ports of PoE would work for me.

@whitey no clue of it has a psu yet as there was no pic in the listing. Suppose to be a new in box switch. Was from the same guy who has the 4 pack of 10gig sfp modules listed. Should be in tommorow I hope. Takes a while for me to get stuff in as I need to use a reshipper to get it up here in Canada.

I already picked up a 10gig module for mine. Ended up costing around 400$ for mine and going rate is 400-500 each right now. I expect that those 4 are prob going to go up quite a bit in the final few hours

So just got my switch in from ebay seller junksomestuff. Came in a juniper box and appears to be brand new not a scratch on it. Came with two fans and a 715w psu installed. Currently is showing an alarm when I start it so will have to check into it but not worried about it yet. Guessing the switch just needs to be setup

The seller is the one that has the 10gig modules listed by @whitey above and also has another ex4300 switch up for sale right now ending tommorow. I would have no issues picking up another one from him

Juniper Networks EX4300 24P Network Swtich | eBay

Idle noise is about the same as my unifi xg16 but at a higher pitch. Have not had a chance to measure power draw on it yet. Will hopefully get a chance in the next week though might wait for my 10gig module to come in before I test it

Just hooked it up to my UPS since i had to move it to try and work on this alarm error and it looks like it is pulling 70-80w at idle with the 715w PSU installed

Juniper will throw an alarm if the out of band management interface is not cabled.

Code:
root> show chassis alarms
1 alarms currently active
Alarm time Class Description

Thanks, ended up figuring that one out, also found out that you need to set a rescue config
eg:
lab@ex4200-vc1# run request system configuration rescue save

I am also going to have to revise my statement on noise it is actually my 2u server that was making all the noise not the xg16 so this switch is a bit louder than my xg16 though not not annoyingly so

using the db meter on my ipad i am showing the following

XG16 - 39db
XS708T - 40db
EX4300 - 45db

@whitey is yours running now as well?
Mine gets here Monday as the ebay seller took their dear sweet time sending out. :-( GRRR

EDIT: That 4 pack of quad port 10G add-on modules posting got out of hand quick price-wise...oh well I am NOT paying more than $200 for one of those so I will just wait, w/ 4 ports of 40G I won't really need the 10G ports anyways.
