For some unknown reason I prefer Android phones to iPhones (it may be that the firm has a 13 month Android cycle and a 23 month iPhone replacement cycle.) I am getting ready to switch to a Samsung Galaxy S3, and had a thought for my old NVIDIA Tegra 2 powered Atrix 4G. What if I turned it into a HTPC? Seems really dumb, but accessories for the phone are very inexpensive:
<$60 on Amazon for the quirky "laptop" attachment - Add a netbook screen, keyboard and bigger battery to the Atrix
<$80 on Amazon for the Motorola Entertainment Center package with the mutimedia dock (HDMI out and a USB hub), remote, wireless keyboard and mouse plus 18w power adapter
<$30 on Amazon for the Motorola Multimedia dock (included in the above but this is standalone)
So the interesting thought is that the Tegra 2 can pump out 1080 and audio out could be via HDMI. Power consumption I am guessing would be sub-Atom levels too.
For those wondering, the interesting thing about the Atrix 4G (aside from the accessory play) is that it has 1GB of RAM and has a desktop like Linux installation already on the device.
Would be really interesting if it worked and might be a really interesting use-case for old mobile phones. The Atrix 4G is unique because Motorola tried an accessory strategy with the phone.
