If you have a top-down cooler rated for higher TDPs and its not enough, something else might be wrong with your airflow. You might need more positive pressure and intake fans. Is this a 2U server chassis? If so, the fan wall in the center of the chassis is usually most responsible for case intake/exhaust.
I do have a fan wall with 2 Phanteks T30s on it so there is a good amount of air moving over the motherboard, but the PSU is making the CPU cooler's job harder:

This thing is going to be a jet engine. I might swap the fan out on mine not for noise but for power savings, yeesh.
I was planning on fan swapping the A47's fan to a 9RA0612P4J0011 If I got one, which should be in the same ballpark performance-wise, but vastly more quiet.

I don't even know how to research the topic and am very clueless, but I did dig up that the SNK-P0094AP4 is what SM is shipping with their 4005 servers now, but it can't be bought retail (yet?). Your reading of Noctua's compatibility page looks right to me. They explicitly say it only supports one orientation for some of the coolers, so the NH-D12L must be rotatable on the H13SAE-MF.
Oddly enough, I was able to buy an SNK-P0094AP4; I figured it'd be easier to fit and easier to quieten down the fan on this than it might be to retrofit a minimum-700rpm to the NH-D12L. Information on the SNK-P0094AP4 isn't easy to come by but in my notes I think it has a max height of 149mm so I don't think it'll fit in a 3U rackmount.

As and when I get the kit and put it together I'll make a proper post about it on your thread.

(I also discovered the SNK-C0156L - a passive heatsink for 22110 M.2's which should be the perfect match for my Micron 7450's)

I'm building a 2U server and my CPU (4545p) only has a 65w tdp, so I don't even care about noise/heat too much. I got a Dynatron A47 because it was mentioned in the STH review (the grado one or the H13 one?).
I'm probably budgeting for 100W board draw for when this thing's going at full pelt (lies, damned lies, and TDP figures) since I think the TDP will only be remotely realistic if boost is disabled. The dynatron is guaranteed to be a proper turbine though :D

Incidentally, I have to wonder if the Ingram Micro cyber attack is the reason for a lot of shipping slowness of this sort of thing recently.

Yeah, I think that might not be a good setup for cooling. The CPU fan isn’t the issue here. Those wall fans max out at 3000rpm, are pretty blocked from exhausting to the rear, and lastly from what I can gather from the picture, there’s almost no rear ventilation. Your fans are probably mostly just circulating hot air around in your case.

Is there anywhere on the rear exhaust you can stick a case fan? It doesn’t even have to be an official mounting point. Just rig a fan up for exhaust anywhere with ventilation on the rear.

I think you might have model #s slightly off. That cooler ships on their 2U server: AS -2015A-TR | 2U | A+ Server | Products | Supermicro

The SNK-P0093AP4 (93 not 94) is a 4U cooler. That one’s in their eStore and can be purchased.

I'm looking at the same CPU and memory, but wasn't sure if the 2x64Gb sticks would work. Have you had any issues?

I'm still debating on which motherboard. I do like my older Supermicro boards but the paywall features is annoying, so I'm also looking at a few ASRock and Gigabyte options. I'm curious what features lead you to chose the Supermicro board.

There is a rear exhaust that lines up with the heatsink, the amount of air coming out of it is about evenly split with the amount of air coming out the PCIe slots based on feeling the airflow with my hand... perhaps I can block the open area of the PCIe slots to force more air through the exhaust next to the CPU cooler.

I'm running a 7900 on my H13SAE-MF which is also a 65 watt CPU and hwinfo is reporting that it regularly hits 95 watts of power consumption.

I chose the Supermicro board because it had the best PCIe lane layout. That being said Gigabyte isn't on my buy list any more because of the amount of hardware bugs in their boards that require board revisions to fix. I still consider Asrock Rack boards but their BIOS support can be a little bit lacking and availability in isn't as good as Supermicro.

I'm mad as Supermicro for breaking IPMIView functionality with this board in the most recent update forcing me to use the web GUI for IPMI, but this is relatively minor compared to the issues of the Gigabyte boards.

I have a 4545p racked in a datacenter now. If anyone has questions let me know, happy to run tests.

Oh and I can confirm the Dynatron A47 is comically loud when stressing the CPU. You don’t want this in your house. That said, the fan curves are dumb and not letting the CPU go above 60°C, so there might be room to improve the situation, but it’s not a good starting point.

Has anyone actually received a 4005 series CPU from any retail channel? Newegg sent me a message today saying my 4545p pre-order is delayed, with no estimate of when it'll be fulfilled.
Received my 4565P from Newegg this afternoon . . .

. . . the H13SAE-MF is due to arrive later this week.

2x64GB Crucial UDIMMS awaiting fitment (success helps provide confidence in the purchase of reciprocal ECC UDIMMS).

Three weeks ago, the H13SAE-MF was In Stock on teh Egg. I waited to Purchase till the next morning, and OOS!!! About two weeks ago, there were ~11 H13SAE-MF available on teh Bay for ~USD520 . . . that dried-up the a day to the week after I decided to pull-the-trigger on just one.

Teh Egg rep. stated that more would be available in early August.

'In Stock' again became available on 25 July.

MB was shipped from Canada....

Paid USD509, got my shipping . . . aaaand the next day the Egg pricing went-down to USD469!

I filed a Price Match, and got *crickets*

My take-away from all this is that the perceived demand (which one would assume--in this case--inevitably outstrips the supply) is a fugazi, and regular Retailers just can't be arsed with the Customer-angst involved in such short supply.

We're probably competing with the interests of approx. 15,528 other purchasers, so try to remain gentle with your Self ;)

Learning to appreciate delayed gratification is one of life's most important and least-celebrated adventures I feel :) As we'll soon be suffering from August, that'll mean I'm on holiday anyway.

Just keen to get some time to have a fiddle with it. My current 3700X has done me well the last five (nearly six?) years, and will probably still be completely usable for another five, just want to see how much the bang-for-buck swingometer has moved in the interim.

Here are the power consumptions measurements I took before racking my server:

Most things installed, incl:
4545p
H13SAE-MF
192GB ram (4 dimm)
RTX 2000 GPU (75W tdp)
VMs running (but idle)
HBA w/ backplane connected
2 m2 SSD

lid is off, no shroud (cooling conditions poor)

NO DRIVES

Results:
  • ~136W idle, no VMs
  • ~187W while actively using Windows VM + GPU (no games)
    • CPU temp = 53℃
    • GPU temp = 46℃
  • ~249W while running furmark in Windows VM
    • GPU temp = 78℃
  • ~228W while running (on Proxmox host): stress -t 600 --cpu 32
    • CPU temp = 60℃
    • GPU temp = 53℃
  • ~287W while running furmark AND stress
    • CPU temp = 59℃
    • GPU temp = 78℃
with drives Installed

It looks like all 12 drives add ~75W at idle

Just 4 SAS drives (~7W / drive):
  • ~195W during boot
  • ~164W idle, no VMs
All 12 drives (~5.9W / drive):
  • ~238W during boot
  • ~211W idle, no VMs
VMs on, 12 drives, stress (32T)
  • ~306W
+furmark (taxing everything but drives)
  • ~362W
  • CPU temp = 59℃
  • GPU temp = 77℃

@Patrick is there any chance we could get the image size limitation removed or raised? It's fine if images are downscaled but it sucks to just have them out-right rejected because the source is too big, and nowadays they are always too big. Even my phone camera takes photos that are rejected for being too big. It's not urgent if you're too busy, of course. Thanks!

Initially received a DXE - PCI Enumeration 94 POST-cycle, so I removed the E610-XT2 and the A4000ADASFF until I get things sorted (which helped).

Mem Training took a *looong* time . . . I plan to use two (or four) ECC 64G DIMMS, but I didn't want to waste USD1K+ not knowing (The Crucials were ~USD150/ea).

This is my first from-scratch build in over three decades, and it seems to have been successful. I went with a mid-tower workstation because of AIO fitment constraints.

IPMI works well, and the system has booted to a UBNT Live USB.

To tail-on to your request altano: if the BB forum soft could accept .webp, that would seriously cut file sizes...

I keep getting boot that stops at "DXE - PCI Bus Enumerating... 94" after installing my A4000 Ada SFF (I've tried both 5.0 slots to same effect). No cables attached...

How did y'all set-up your BIOS to get similar GPUs to work?

Did you dis-able the VGA on the board?

Are you running x16 cards in both of the full size slots trying to get x8x8? I remember reading that the stupid mux chip can refuse to do x8x8 if the primary card is x16 and someone had to use tape over the latter half of their pins.

I have the E610 in the top x4 slot (which works well afaict), and one A4000 4.0 x16 in one 5.0 x16 (merely tested both).

A 550W PSU powers all of this, if that makes any difference.
