It’s a $180 license. I’m willing to buy licenses for stuff but that’s just too much for mounting an iso for me.

You used to be able to use the Java kvm to do it for free. And I’ve just never gotten the smb mounting to work. ‍♀

So it’s inaccessible to me, but it is theoretically supported.
You sure that you need a 180 U$D license? Cause mounting ISO is apparently supported by the 27 U$D one. Check 1-4 Software Licenses Available here: https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/IPMI_Users_Guide.pdf

I'll probably be making a fuller thread about it shortly, but I don't suppose there's any board manufacturers who've spoken up on enabling any of their consumer kit to work with the Epyc 4000 series, and as such it's going to be tied to server-lite boards only? The 4545P looks to be a darling of an SKU (and I'm hoping to see reviews of it soon) and would potentially be a perfect fit for a build I'm planning.

Incidentally I was highly tempted to get an H13SAE-MF but the IPMI paywall was a serious drawback and I had no idea it was even as petty as being required for virtual media. Blech. Will have to wait and see if the better-arranged-than-the-B650D4U-I-think B650D4U3 makes it over to these shores.
I spotted one Asus consumer board that lists support ProArt B650-Creator | Motherboards | ASUS UK probably worth looking for others as they update, as its a bit random just having this one.

Has anyone actually received a 4005 series CPU from any retail channel? Newegg sent me a message today saying my 4545p pre-order is delayed, with no estimate of when it'll be fulfilled.

I've taken the plunge in ordering a 4545P in the UK (only arrived in stock a few days ago), delivery currently slated for the 21st of July. But I suspect there's other stuff in the order that will delay as a whole past that date - some of the other gubbins set for the second week of August.

Where did you find it available to order in UK, I can't find it anywhere...

Good morning guys, I actually just finished a build from parts ordered off newegg last week.epyc chip in box.pngsupermicro mobo on mat.pngmobo pcie slots.pngframe with mobo and cpu.pngcrucial udimms 128g.pngframe angle.pngbios cpu detected.pngbios memory detected.pngbios bifurcation 4444.pngbios nvme raid.png

I am sorry for the low resolution pictures, but uploading full res stuff to the forum here always gets blocked for being too large. Please let me know if you have any questions about the hardware setup.

Edit: Mobo is MBD-H13SAE-MF-O, paid ~450 for mobo and ~550 for chip i think

Ten in stock at £499.57 at the time of posting. They have others from the 4005 series in stock as well, including the 4586PX if that's more your bag.

I'll be doing them myself when I get them but do you have the capability to do power measurements?

I've also ended up plumping for an H13SAE-MF myself, I'm curious as to which BIOS yours came with OotB since Supermicro don't post changelogs and the QVL or mobo manual doesn't even include the 4005 chips yet... even though the product blurb (and your screenies) confirm they work. Given the latest release v2.4 is only a month old and there's usually a considerable lag before boards start getting shipped with the newest versions I'm assuming yours came with v2.3 from back in March but would be interested to hear otherwise...

Probably not exactly the right place to ask, but since the question of coolers has been raised I figure I may as well.

Given the socket's 90deg rotation from regular desktop mobos, I thought I might give the SM SNK-P0093AP4 cooler a whirl and try at some point to get its noise under control. But Noctua's page on H13SAE-MF compatibility suggests to me that the NH-D12L supports being rotated from regular desktop orientation as well. Anyone else here investigated similarly?

(Yes, I'm aware I'm likely to have problems with a noctua fan's low RPMs on a SM mobo but interested to hear other people's choices)

Went with be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5. I fired up cinebench last night and I think it is thermal throttling
Wow, that's wild. I see now why ASRock built that water cooler into their chassis.

question of coolers
I started a thread about 4005 series coolers here: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/cpu-cooler-for-2u-epyc-4005-cpu.48215/ but didn't get any responses. I don't even know how to research the topic and am very clueless, but I did dig up that the SNK-P0094AP4 is what SM is shipping with their 4005 servers now, but it can't be bought retail (yet?). Your reading of Noctua's compatibility page looks right to me. They explicitly say it only supports one orientation for some of the coolers, so the NH-D12L must be rotatable on the H13SAE-MF.

I'm building a 2U server and my CPU (4545p) only has a 65w tdp, so I don't even care about noise/heat too much. I got a Dynatron A47 because it was mentioned in the STH review (the grado one or the H13 one?).

How's the noise on the A47?

I'm considering swapping out my NH-L12S for it because the Noctua isn't able to cool my 65w CPU very well and it's heatpipes block cards longer than 4 PCIe lanes in length in the first PCIe slot. The A47 was about the only cooler I could find that was 2U or smaller and blew air the correct direction for this motherboard.

I'll let you know if I ever get my CPU from Newegg :p. It comes with a small, cheap-looking ~40mm fan so it's probably very loud.

You shouldn't have to solely rely on the CPU fan for getting the air out of the case. If you have a top-down cooler rated for higher TDPs and its not enough, something else might be wrong with your airflow. You might need more positive pressure and intake fans. Is this a 2U server chassis? If so, the fan wall in the center of the chassis is usually most responsible for case intake/exhaust.

Not entirely true.

Silverstone's 2U case has 2 intake fans the front of the case

Oh wow yeah I just looked up the Dynatron’s fan speeds:

At Duty Cycle 20%: 2300±200 RPM
At Duty Cycle 50%: 5400±10% RPM
At Duty Cycle 100%: 11000±10% RPM

This thing is going to be a jet engine. I might swap the fan out on mine not for noise but for power savings, yeesh.

Not entirely true.

I said usually :). There are lots of exceptions, but perhaps even “usually“ is overstating it.
