Does ram speed make any difference in CPU mining?

Thanks,

Jeff

just bought some cpu to test.
All of them are diskless
Hashrates are from 30mins average.

2x E5-2470 + 1x 4GB 2Rx8 1333 + Intel S2400SC + 350W Gold PSU
= 890H/s using XMRig 20 Threads
10 Cores Total Enabled. (5+5 with HT)
155W (150W with fan removed)
~30C ambient temp
5.5+ Hash per watt.

2x E5-2430 v2 + 1x 4GB 2Rx8 1333 + Intel S2400SC + 350W Gold PSU
= 670H/s using XMRig 14 Threads
8 Cores Total Enabled. (4+4 with HT)
90W (85W with fan removed)
~30C ambient temp
6.7+ Hash per watt.

2x E5-2680 v2 + 1x 4GB 2Rx8 1333 + Quanta Windmill
= 1250H/s using XMRig 24 Threads
12 Cores Total Enabled. (6+6 with HT)
135W (125W with fan removed)
~30C ambient temp
8.5+ Hash per watt.

**I didn't test this properly.
2x E5-2448L v2 + 1x 4GB 2Rx8 1333 + Intel S2400SC + 350W Gold PSU
= 820H/s using XMRig 24 Threads
12 Cores Total Enabled. (6+6 with HT)
xxxW
~30C ambient temp
~8.0+ Hash per watt. (estimated.)

It does not affect performance at all, OR a little.

I could not get over 600h/s without enabling all the cores. Using all the 10 cores per cpu, its around 637h/s per CPU. On E5-2680v2.

Are the results you got average speeds or top speeds?
hmm, I just tested again and it spiked up to 1250H/s for 5 minutes then dropped to 1150-1200H/s. I guess 1250H/s might be top speeds because my setup can't sustain that hashrate for a long run.

I do find that my workstation with 4 x 2gb Hynix 1Rx8 PCL-10600E hashes better than my identical workstation with 4x 16gb Hynix 12800R.

Not sure what it is but it does give me a bit more.

Someone with more knowledge of ram could explain.

Guys I'm having difficulty with XMRig, it's only detecting one of my Xeon 2620's I have (1) displayed. It says I have 12 thread (set it manually), I've disabled hyper threading in the BIOS and am currently getting 510 h/s. Huge pages enabled.

Is there anything I can do to force it to detect 2 xeons, I'm seeing stats from others who are getting 800 h/s on dual 2620's.

Thanks

R.I.P. CPU and GPU profitable monero mining.
It's seems that only botnets and asics will survive

That might be why they're changing the PoW.
Monero: PoW change and key reuse

Until now, I thought it was preventative.

I haven't looked in detail yet, but hopefully the change is effective against these ASICs... Either way, we'll have to see how quickly other forks adopt changes.

These minor POW changes in hashing algorithm can help only in case if these Baikal N are not based on FPGA programmable chips.

Dang. Based on those hash rate and pricing figures, the Baikal N miner has a monetary hashing efficiency of 5.6H/s/$ when mining XMR. That sure makes the 1.7H/s/$ I am getting using OCP servers look fairly abysmal in comparison. Not to mention that the Baikal N has a power hashing efficiency of 333H/s/W, compared my 4.1H/s/W. Time to sell up and find a new hobby methinks.

Edit: Forgot to convert my numbers to USD.

I think that most cryptonight based coins will end up forking from Monero's new algorithm.

It's not that easy. Monero has a lot of changes to the original Cryptonote code. Any existing coin that was not already a Monero fork will have a field day (=year) implementing the changes.

Wow, I honestly didn't think this was possible for cryptonight. And only 60W power consumption? I would have bet there was a zero missing. But why does it have three 6-pin power connectors then? One would be more than sufficient for 60W.
Any idea how they pulled this off? Or does it sound too good to be true?

On your 2x E5-2680 v2 test, how do you measure power usage?

What are you mining to get the hash results?

Are you sure you are using E5-2680 v2 cpus? Maybe they are v3s?

The best I can do on linux with the same configuration is 1080 H/S at 179W. I didn't think windows made much of a difference, I may need to give it a try.

Thanks,

Jeff

My guess they use two asic boards plus the controller board and they used standard pci-e connectors because they are pretty universal with asic miners not because they need the power capability of those connectors.

dual E5-2650L V2 + 1 stick of 1GB Elipda 8500E

If xmrig is setup as a service and is able to steal all the L2 on startup seems to work better. Also unbuffered ECC seems to be faster than registered ECC - difference in 50 H/s. 1gb 8500E vs 4gb 10600R.

All cores / xmrig 24 threads - ~780H/s
6 cores active / xmrig 22 threads - ~700 H/s

Haven't had a chance to check power draw, but i'd imagine it's amazing.

Mine get ~1200h/s @ 180w, dockered miner on Ubuntu server 16.04. Sounds like you don't have hugepages enabled.

I have huge pages enabled and am running 6 cores per cpu on XMRIG/Fedora. How many cores do you have enabled?

Thanks,

Jeff
