Can some tell me what's a performance diffrence debian/linux vs windows on 28+ cores machines?

On my single E5-2695 V2, 12 cores 24 threads, it runs about %10 slower on Windows 7 vs Ubuntu 16.04.

I am coming back for ryzen 1700 performance on Windows , after not having time to install linux again tried to mine with monero on Win 7....
1700 is a BEAST , i get 522 speed at default bios settings.... I just used xmr-stack and their recommended guidelines for hugepages in readme.txt. If 1700 default is 522 without any tuning i wonder how fast is 1800x!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: check a bit with ryzen master clocking at 3600 , it went 560 speed but i think i need bios update my rams dont run at 2400 and losing so much from there...
Could you show your config file? I have a ryzen 7 1700 too, windows 10 and xmr -stack.With default clocks I getting around 480 h, with overclocked CPU upto 3,7ghz I can get 522h. So, I am wondering how did you get so good results?

I realized today that I had to install the Monero Gui wallet beta 2 because of the fork a couple of days ago. I apparently did not pay enough attention to the announcement that the fork will not affect mining programs or online wallets.

I was thinking they meant ALL wallets and was wondering why it would not updating after a certain block the last couple of days. LOL

Super easy to install!!

The Beta 2 version has built in solo mining.

Its just slowly syncing right now.

I shut down monero mining on my daughters watercooled FX 8320/GTX 970 system a few days ago, its just too loud and too much heat pumping out of it.

But I will more than make up for it sometime in the next week or so.

Dual E5-2650's and dual RX470's or Rx570's.

@Marsh I think all of those $150-180 cards we have been seeing were a result of cleaning out leading up to the announcement.

@Klee the 470/ 480s are an awesome deal since they are being cleared out.

The deals were pretty good up till they released the RX580's and 570's, the demand from miners are keeping the prices up.

I am actually leaning in favor of the RX570's.

On a related note my Asrock Rack EP2C612 WS motherboard refuses to boot to a fully functioning desktop with an unsigned modded bios on my graphics cards.

At first I disabled Secure boot, still beeps on bootup and takes a while to get to a really low resolution in Ubuntu and it only sees a generic VGA card.

Everything I have read is that the UEFI bios will not always let you boot with a modded video bios and you have to use legacy mode.

So I though since I had the motherboard set to UEFI only boot I needed to change it to legacy but but after I unplugged the Ubuntu and Windows ssd's and plugged in a unused and formated ssd in it and then changed it to legacy boot still does not work and just beeps.

Any tips?

The reason for the unsigned bios on the video cards is I am playing around with modding them to increase my mining speed.

Klee can't you turn on CSM mod/No UEFI?

@Patrick
What do you suppose about new skylake x. There is half of L3 and 4x of L2.

Options are:

CSM disabled
Legacy and UEFI
Legacy

I was figuring Legacy would do it but nope.

Even tried Legacy without any drives attached thinking that if the board detected a UEFI configured drive it would default to UEFI but nothing worked.

I found a "Quiet" bios from XFX that is signed and it boots with that, all that bios does is run the fans at a slower speed.
