My google skills have failed me as I have not found this error message anywhere. I installed a ConnectX-4 40GbE card and passed it through to an existing NappiT r151034 VM. I also tried a deploying a new VM and passed the card through. I end up with the same error and no connectivity.

Does it work in your hypervisor?
yes, it does. For the time being, I ended up adding it to a vswitch, and then added a vnic to The nappit vm. That is working, but I think I will get better performance with it passed through.

and you're sure omnios or whatever you based NappIt on has driver support for that particular cx4?

yes, it does. It’s on the HCL. My original vm was running 032, and the card didn’t even show up. I upgraded it to 034, and I was able to see the card and give it an IP.

well that might be worth checking then - at least it used to be officially required to have matching versions, but have not seen any issues lately with it

Thanks. I will look into it. I didn’t notice anything on the HCL about a specific firmware version.

True, but maybe OmniOS is doing sth differently than vSphere...
or there is a driver option that need to be set.
No clue, just guessing ;)
