Is there an updated list of GPUs which people have been successful using on the MS-01?

I am using the machine with Proxmox VE for Home Assistant, Frigate, and some other home lab stuff. I would like to add an extra GPU to the machine to fully pass it to a Windows VM for direct connect screen output, this way I can share the iGPU to Frigate, Jellyfin, etc. I understand if I share the iGPU I cannot direct display any of those containers/VMs except through Remote Desktop, but I want to actually connect the Windows VM to my home stereo and TV.

I don't need the most powerful device and I am not worried about extreme FPS or spending over $200. The purpose of that is just so my kid can plan some games on the TV.
I have a Radeon RX6400 that is working fine in the machine.
Also i did what describe in this post and i had tried a 1070ti and 4070 and both work fine in the machine with the egpu mod. I can succesfully passthrough any GFX card to my Proxmox Daily drive VM with windows 10.

Thanks Chris. Did you have to bump up the size of the power supply when adding the Radeon RX6400 or was the stock supply still sufficient?

In all my tests with the RX6400 i never went more than 150w overall. I have the whole house with Shelly Relays inside the sockets and in the PC i have a ShellyPlug
Also in the bios i have the PL1, Pl2 and the other setting to 0.

Got mine today! I9-12900H. Cinebench 2024 multi-core 10 min test max speed was 4.49 GHz, and max temp 92c...Idling at 37c, in 25c ambient. i9-12900 is 5.0 GHz Turbo so I guess I should repaste if I ever want to see that? lol

I got mine up and running today.
96GB memory (2X48GB crucial) - have not checked whether I have issues/errors
4TB Lexar NM790 SSD w heatsink - SSD 1 - Slot 1 -> this was a bulky SSD with Heatsink I can confidently state instals fine
2 TB Samsung 790 Plus - SSD 2 - Slot 2 - no issues here - installed Promox on this SSD

My BIOS is latest V 1.22

Does anyone have recommendations on any BIOS settings to make Proxmox run efficently?

I finished installing Proxmox not knowing much about it. I installed on SSD 2. This is some crazy stuff - still learning I managed to log in via the web interface on another computer. Initially my mouse would not work in web interface - had to close and reopen. Any thoughts why this happened?

I also would like to learn more (I have a post on STH but no one responded).

My goal for MS-01 was to be used as the in-between my IP (Verizon) and all devices in my home (this includes Hardline and Wifi). I have not connected to my Fios ONT yet and test this. I asked how to implement PFsense on Proxmox to project the whole home + any OS I virtualize. Any help? I hear you can install PFsense in a container - my question - does this PROTECT everything? I also asked whether I can install Windows on SSD 1 and hold DEL key and select wither Windows 11 or Promox server to boot into. ATM I'm just playing with Proxmox, but when I become familiar with it - and run it as my Firewall/VPN it will be running 24/7 and I'll virtualize Win 11.

Also - does Proxmox also serve as a Firewall/VPN with no need for PFsense? I saw a firewall tab but didn't play with it. I have ProtonVPN and would like to use OpenVPN file from P-VPN. Can I set this up in Proxmox, or do I need PFsense?

Thanks

I recently changed from esxi to proxmox with no problems what so ever. Google search is your friend as matter proxmox and settings of it, if you want something in specific and you dont find it ask.
Yes you can multiboot, why not?
As for proxmox to serve as firewall forget that, install pfsense as a clean vm to do what you want, what is the point of proxmox if you have pfsense on the other disk? I have pfsense on basic bridge with 5 wan interfaces and 5 vlans and is working great.

It’s a bit offtopic, but did anybody successfully passthrough a port of the onboard X710 and a PCIe-NIC to a proxmox VM ?

I can only passthrough one PCIe-device to VM.
The ACS override in the kernel is set.

Yes, it works, been using it for a while now. Both with and without SR-IOV.

Is IOMMU separated out for both ports if you run "lspci -v"?

@BlueChris thanks. You are still speaking partial Greek to me but it makes me think. I will do more research and poe into here for more questions if I have them. I just don't understand why Promox - the OS and frontline interface - doesn't provide robust system level firewall/VPN. Isn't Promox considered a server OS? I know it also does virtualization. I have no problem adding PFsense since it's what's recommended numerous times for being robust. But I like simplicity not complexity.

Next set for me is to bring all of my gear closer to Fios/ONT and start integrating the MS-01 into my network as the main server/firewall/vpn driving my home network.

Thanks again

Its because i am Original Greek... i live in Athens :)

Proxmox is not designed to be a general firewall.. this is what i know at least, its firewall abilities are for the proxmox itself and the colaboration between the VMs for security reasons, but underneath its linux... so someone could made it a full feature firewall but without interface for the firewall at all you must be a total nerd to configure it and maintain it lol
Again if i am wrong please someone correct me.

From my personal perspective.
It is nice to have it all homelab-stuff on one little box, but it is better to have additional / seperate low powered box for the network-routing stuff.

Homelabs are often not static - you want to test something, patch, rebooting proxmox …

If you lost the routing on these actions and your girlfried / wife can not watch the favorite tv-serie anymore - you‘re f*cked up and the WAF (women acception factor) is gone :D

So has anyone gotten the i5 version to use as a line rate pfSense box? Seems that with a small pair of mirrored SSDs and 8+ GB RAM these would be excellent.

So even though I like simplicity of one solution - I'm starting to think you are right - purchase one of those cheap Chinese Firewall/VPN computers to run just PFsense/Firewall/VPN - and still use MS-01 for Proxmox/Virtualization (Windows and maybe Linux). I was kind of hoping MS-01 would do it all. I will still look into using just the MS-01 for now. The Ms-01 - for the price - looks killer as a homely/server/firewall/VPN and it costs just a bit more than some of the computers ServeTheHome reviews. If I can find a fairly powerful Firewall/VPN for maybe $200-$300 I would consider trying it out.

BTW I single so if server goes down I'm the one that is impacted. I can live with this. I'll add an extra cable run to my ONT as a backup and run as normal if MS-01 flakes out.

It depends of the BW they can process which is not big...

i personally have 5 wans
2 x 1gbit fibers from 2 different providers
3 x 5G NSA modems (a FWA710, a Huawei CPE Pro2 and a MU5001, that all will go soon to SA in Greece) connections that the 1st reaches normally 1+gbit the second at 500-700 mbit and the 3nd reaches 400-500mbit, Combined this lines in pfsense (as a VM in proxmox without passthrough of anything just with a virtio network card and full zenarmor) give me 4+gbit sustained in speed tests and the MS-01 doesn't sweat about it.

I had bad results with this cheap Chinese Firewall/VPN computers because they lacked the backbone on the MB and the cpu power to go big.

Hello guys,
i'm running proxmox and tried testing IOMMU support running
dmesg | grep -e DMAR -e IOMMU

but get no output.
does ms-01 support IOMMU?

If you're using ext4 for the proxmox OS drive, here is the code I use for setting up IOMMU:

sed -i 's/quiet/quiet intel_iommu=on iommu=pt/g' /etc/default/grub; \
update-grub; \
echo "vfio" >> /etc/modules; \
echo "vfio_iommu_type1" >> /etc/modules; \
echo "vfio_pci" >> /etc/modules; \
cat /etc/modules; \
update-initramfs -u -k all; \
reboot

There are guides in the proxmox wiki for setting it up:
