I was very tempted by this MS-A2 (9955HX) but it seems to suffer from serious temperature problems: would it be possible to have a report on the CPU, NVME and system temperatures with and without the case at idle and high load?

Also on the user manual:

5.To prevent the SSD from overheating, the two SSDs on the right side of the back support a
maximum speed of PCIE4.0x4, but are set to PCIE3.0x4 by default. You can adjust it to PCIe Gen4
speed in OnBoard Setting in BIOS, but it may cause the SSD to overheat, which may result in blue
screen, freeze, or data loss.

Maybe I should wait for the F1FGM motherboard.

Thanks

It takes some modding to address the temps but it is possible. The biggest problem in the beginning was lack of fan control which has been adressed with latest bios. Using this mod helps tremendously:

There is also nvme mount mod that drops multi nvme temps a bunch.

My only concern with that case, and also with the original is dust.
I am trying to design a case with 80mm fans with filters, but it has been a challenge not to loose front panel functionality. It will be a bigger case, but it will have lots of filtered air flow.
Still a work in progress.

I bought a QNAP-M.2 NVMe Adapter card with active cooling and it seems like they work great, this is on high load (s-tui with 50 hdd workers). The first two are from the qnap adapter (52.9 max) and the other two are the internal one with max-fan-speed (still reach 75 max)
QNAP QM2-2P-344A PCIe 3.0 - havent tried the printables from @wadup yet, need to find someone with a 3d printer :-D

Power Limit will be cannot change setting when PCIE GPU inserted.
If you want change your powerlimit setting, you still can change it use manaul fan mode and go to CBS SMU setting.
You mean changing power levels here:

Just turn the fan up or liquid metal will give you a 10-15 degree drop.

Yep, fan is really powerful at 255.
Are you using the fan speeds you posted a while back?

I changed it a bit and I am getting 80C when it gets stable. Fan is too slow to react to temperature change.
btw, I wish there was a way to monitor fan rpm.

I picked up a few 6Gb PM863a SSDS that I plan to use in an external chassis for a Proxmox build running TrueNAS Scale and possibly pfSense. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get 6-8 external drives hooked up. I could always run an LSI "e" in the PCI slot, but I'm concerned about the heat and trying to keep the card cool. Is there a way to use the Oculink with external storage? Just looking for some recommendations and options.

This is what I am currently using

If the fan is not keeping up maybe change from the stock PTM with Kingpin KPX or LM. Replacing the thermal pads with UTP-8 thermal putty helped a lot for me. My fan can keep up no matter the load so wondering you just need to swap the TIM your using.

And what temperatures are you getting?
With LM I idle at 38C and under load never go over 60C. I have opened the case up and additional time to apply more LM because the Copper is absorbing some of it.

using nvidia-smi --persistence-mode=1

1756007823856.png

using my 2 drive nvme mount https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/minis-forum-ms-a2.47735/post-474062 which just repurposes the stock nvme fan and heatsink.

Using this case mod as well Minisforum MS A2 / MS 01 case by Kevin68 | Download free STL model | Printables.com

Using this modded case was 1-2C hotter than running with no shell which is phenomenal.

Ambient is 70F

You mean Ambient is 70F right?

Anyway, 60C at full load is impressive. I am getting that at idle.

Yes 70F sorry

You could start out by removing the shell and see where your temperatures fall too. Then you could adjust your fan curve. If those temps are acceptable you could 3d print the case mod and your done. If you want more you could go down the LM route etc.

60C idle is with the cover off. Ambient at least 77F (I have to check inside the cabinet)

Edit: I managed to shave off a few degrees by adjusting the fan curve. 48C idle and 73C load.
I am stopping there. Liquid metal is not for me.
