Sitting dormant in my garage is a Dell Precision workstation. Its hardware specs are dual Xeon x5460 quad-core processors and potentially 32GB of RAM.

I am wanting to just be able to start it up and let it run, unhindered. Think this box will be able to accomplish any type of mining?

it's pretty slow old hardware. it;s like mining with bare hands. sure, you can mine with bare hands but no one do it because it's so slow and inefficient. this socket is even before 1366. It doesn't even have hyperthread. There is no turbo boost either. and 32 gb is probably the max ram you can have anyway.

Here;s the benchmark:

UserBenchmark: 1st CPU: Intel Xeon X5460 vs Core i7-2600K

Two x5460 is slightly slower at mulithread than ONE i7-2600k and much slower at single threads.

Conclusion: good for routine browsing and some gaming. no good for any heavy calculation...
