    Why do you assume people won't be using RouterOS with their MikroTik? Is it that bad? I would think it delivers good value for the price...

    You are probably referring to the CRS switches, which are not comparable to real layer 3 switches.
    Other than that, plenty of people use their hardware as routers (they make not slow ones too), and may want to update.
