Hey all.

Just bought a bunch of M1015's for my servers (around $200 for 4 cards) :)
I plan on flashing them into 9240-8i mode.

If i remember correctly, in LSI raid controllers, i am able to disconnect the SFF8087 connectors from an old LSI controller to a 9260-8i for example without loosing the raid setup because it's saved onto the discs.
Isnt that correct ?

The reason for the question, is that i might upgrade the raid controllers later on to a model with cache.

By the way, i ordered a M1015 Advanced key for having the ability to run RAID-5. Am i able to use this key if i flash the card into 9240-8i mode ?

Best regards

Installed a M1015 in a Supermicro motherboard with the Advanced Key.
Just for testing, i connected a standard 80GB Sata drive and was able to configure it as "Unconfigured Good". I thought that was impossible ?

Best regards

The M1015 is basically a LSI9240-8i already from factory no need to configure anything.
You can migrate from the M1015 to a LSI9260 later and import the foreign configuration at first boot this should preserve the RAID array (remember backup just incase)

You can set the drives to unconfigured good on the M1015 and LSI9240 but you can't on the M5015/LSI9260 they have to be in an array

When you run the M1015 in RAID5 mode expect VERY SLOW write performance, the M1015 is a great card except RAID5 which it sucks at, the M5015/LSI9260 is infinitely better at it.
