Not sure on the life left on them, haven't decided if I am going to order some yet or not.

Decent write endurance though so hopefully for moderate homelab use you'll get a good long life out of them.

But for pure price per GB for U.2 this is pretty good AFAIK.

Some have mentioned these drives do need quite a bit of cooling, can use anywhere from 17-25W~? under active use.
So there is that to consider.
The seller seems to have a LOT of them and has other listings but all the other listings they have are $150 a piece, even the bulk listings of 10x or 20x.
Although I believe some or all of the rest of those listings have make offer so I suppose you could offer $125 there.

It's a good price, though. I bought these prior to the Chia craze for $140 a piece. Been serving me very well! And yes they do run hot! I put them in the 2.5" rear drive bay of a supermicro 3U case, and got thermal shutdown until I adjust fan speeds to get more air in that area of the chassis.

Look at their other listings, they have the same drive listed many times, all other listings are at $150 a pop but does have make offer there:

Your looking for these guys I think...

This seller took an offer of 10, 20, 10 respectively on these:


Though I bought 4+ of each and made the offer all at the same time.

You can find sets with the cage, cables, card for more... Especially if you need the steel part around the backplane.

Edit: Doh, 730... Uh I think you need the later generation that uses an occulink looking connectors... two of them for x8 each.

Too bad they don't make NVME where they idle like an enterprise SATA SSD power for normal usage (90k IOPs) up to 3-4w and then if they're hammered they use ~14w... these things idling the same as a 7200rpm HDD is no fun :(

I've been wondering about these too, but don't really need them... Do they really use 14W idle?

It's currently showing 40 sold, 60 still available FWIW.

No. Idle power is like a 7200rpm HDD.

Power: <8W idle, 25W power limited, or unlimited

I have these in a r730xd using the Dell NVME card. You do not want to use that r630 sas cable. It's too short in the r730xd. Part number 1pdfm is the r730xd cables. I bought mine together with a card.

There are only two slots that are 16x, number 4 (CPU2) and number 6 (CPU1.) The NVME card is supposed to go in slot 4 and the cables are that exact length. I'm running single CPU and I got the cables to fit by running them across the unused CPU2 ram slots and tucked around the fans without having to modify the baffles.

On one hand the usage is crazy, on the other hand, it's only 30% 'consumed' with 100% spare available if I'm reading this correctly. If we run them not too hard they should last quite a while.

It's spec'ed endurance is:
  • 4K Random Total Bytes Written (PB): 8.8 PB
  • 128K Sequential Total Bytes Written (PB): 17.5 PB
Using 5PB host writes, the 27%-29% "used" must be coming from the sequential number. If you keep yourself under 0.5 DWPD you can easily get another 4 years out of the drive before you start seeing alot of write/erase failures.
