This post seems like an attempt to sell them here as a business without permission
User joined in 2013 and has a little too many community thumbs up for this to be the case. I'd go with honest intentions.

FYI These 5300 MAX should also need a recent 2026 firmware update because of a 16-bit uptime overflow bug. 5100 and 5200 have already seen updates, pulled out of cloud provider rescue ISOs et al. For 5300 crickets because at Micron they need every hand in the basement right now, to count all that money. There is a thread on STH and another on Reddit r/datahoarders.

Edit: smartmontools fully support these drives, check SMART attribute 9 and 202:
9 Power_On_Hours -O--CK 100 100 000 - 6144
202 Percent_Lifetime_Remain ----CK 093 093 001 - 7

Has it been confirmed? User who reported this problem on reddit said they have a bunch of 5100 (which presumably, being older models, have reached that threshold) and didn't experience the bug. For 5300, we have a few years before this starts being a problem, and the 5300 seems to be under active support, i.e. firmware available in their main download page.

Nice. I have a few Micron 5100 3.84TB Proper . Usually there is the Dell "Trick" one can try (strip a few Bytes off the Header of the Dell Firmware), but Dell not providing it is already killing that Idea.

I had some Micron 5300 and it wasn't easy to to determine how much life was left in them. They didn't report a % health.
Hard Disk Sentinel FTW

It looks at more than just one or two SMART values and uses some logic to come up with a number that is closer to the real health.

It's only downfall (in my opinion) is that it doesn't have a full database of drive endurance. So, a 10 DWPD drive reporting 90% remaining health in the raw SMART data will show that in Hard Disk Sentinel. But, if there are also a few relocated sectors (which could be very reasonable for a drive with that much data written), the assessment will drop to much lower than the 90% it would otherwise report . For a seller, though, this is good, as it means that you can be sure if HDS shows a health number, the actual health won't be lower.
