I paid $125/ea for these just a couple months ago. Seller said they'd go as low as $85.

When asked about drive health, seller responded:
I tested 10 of the 32 remaining. All 10 were 96% - 100% health.

All 10 had avg 800TB writes. All 10 had over 1000 hours life remaining.

How many TB written on them for those you received?
I bought from a seller with a similar username based in California. I think they are two locations of the same parent company. The ones I received @ $125/ea reported 100% health, <100TBW as I recall... it's only been a couple months but it's been a while lol

Edit: the seller is going to follow up with health stats.

Edit2: seller replied.
I tested 10 of the 32 remaining. All 10 were 96% - 100% health.

All 10 had avg 800TB writes. All 10 had over 1000 hours life remaining.

interesting. the price of SSDs is plummeting right now, so if you just need cheap storage for consumer uses you can get a new 2TB drive for around this price.

BUT, this thing has absurd endurance (14PBW) , and pretty good performance.

The other seller "buybest16" usually puts the smart information of all the SSDs on its listing. (Looks like they pick 100% health drives with very low writing for a higher price, like $155/each for 5100max 1.6tb, all of them have over 1000 days power-on.)

I don't know about 5100 max specifically but there is a chance that the 1.6tb firmware is optimized for large OP and not interchangeable with 1.92tb. Hope that is not the case, though.

Based on a cursory search of the full model number and firmware version, these appear to be from Cisco systems.

Edit: doh, listing says "Brand: Cisco"

You have some of these drives? Could you try manually loading the firmware I linked to?

I know the Dell 5300 max I had wouldn't update the oem firmware I needed to use Dell Nautilus.

I didn't bother updating firmware. They tested good and were deployed in some field servers for a SAR team. I did suggest to their tech lead to try updating firmware using the Storage Executive but never heard back. Sent a follow up email to see if that went anywhere.

Storage Executive may not update the Micron 5100 max to the most up-to-dated firmware without a subscription or Micron account. It will said it is up-to-date but we can find newer firmware on Micron's website. I haven't tried to register a Micron account(is it free?).

I looked it up yesterday out of interest. Micron firmware available to me is only for drives that are in their PDF prospecti, i.e. retail part number ends in -YY aka "generic" and size is one of 240 480 960 1920 3840 7680. The updater also has configuration for just these sizes and the firmware numbering for these 1600 GB drives is also different. I suspect those Cisco drives are seriously overprovisioned from factory, like 100%. I think the 5100 MAX 960 GB already has like 1.5 GB raw capacity. So the 1600 might be 3 GB raw.

That said the 5200 and 5300 not so much but the 5100 had a good 8-10 updates to correct serious firmware errors. For kids' Linux computers totally fine, near impossible to write the drive to death. Sudden power losses due to misuse also no problem due to PLP. For a machine serving the home in the rack, I'd want those fixes. Pricing looks attractive.

Anyone here with a Cisco service contract? I've found updated firmware for these Cisco-brand 5100's but it's behind a paywall.

@Stephan is spot on regarding firmware errors: 5100 Series: Earlier SSDs Might Have Firmware Issues on ASR 9000 - Workaround Provided

Following up here, did anyone ever get the firmware? I also tried creating an account but it requires a valid service contract with Cisco.

The one I just purchased is MTFDDAK1T6TCC-1AR16ABCD and is on firmware D0MU054, which apparently is not impacted, but would prefer to update just in case.
